In Letter to Presidential Candidates, SIIA & Leading Tech Groups
Recommend a High Tech Agenda

Washington, D.C. (May 5, 2016) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association representing the software and digital content industries, yesterday announced it has joined with a group of national organizations in recommending Technology Sector Presidential Platform.  The platform was outlined in a letter the groups sent today to the presidential candidates.

Mark MacCarthy, SIIA’s Senior Vice President of Public Policy, issued the following statement:

“Technology hasn’t often made headlines in the presidential race, and yet it is an enormous part of many of the most important issues being discussed. For instance, the data flow rules in trade agreements are vital for U.S. global competitiveness, and the regulatory landscape for the Internet of Things will directly impact opportunities to create good jobs in the U.S.

“SIIA has also frequently said that effective intellectual property laws play a critical role in protecting the American ingenuity that drives our economy. We are pleased that the industry is united in supporting intellectual property rights, including by maintaining the carefully crafted balances that exist in our copyright laws.  These laws offer the effective protection and flexibility necessary to promote innovation and creativity.

“As part of a broad high tech platform, our letter offers a range of recommendations on trade, innovation, intellectual property and more. We urge all political candidates to fully understand technology’s role as creator of jobs and economic opportunity – and the powerful ways in can be applied to address many of the complex challenges we face as a nation.”

The letter was signed by the leaders of the following associations (listed in alphabetical order):

  • Allied For Startups
  • BSA|The Software Alliance
  • CompTIA
  • Computer & Communications Industry Association
  • Consumer Technology Association
  • ITI – The Information Technology Industry Council
