Association Media & Publishing Announces the 38th Annual EXCEL Award Winners

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 26, 2018) – Association Media & Publishing is honored to announce 90 first-place winners of the 38th Annual EXCEL Awards, which recognizes the best, and the brightest in association media and publishing. The winners were announced at the 38th EXCEL Awards Gala ceremony on June 25th at the National Housing Center in Washington, DC.

In addition to the 90 gold winners, AM&P named 102 silver and 108 bronze winners. The EXCEL Award winners were chosen for taking bold chances in editorial, design, advertising and marketing, online publishing and electronic newsletter categories.

The companies who took home the most gold awards were, American Dental Association, Bates Creative, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and Imagination.

“We are privileged to recognize outstanding work in the association media and publishing industry this year. The EXCEL Awards showcase and spotlight first class association content that’s both innovative and enlightening in a rapidly changing world,” said Michael Marchesano, AM&P Executive Director.

Rich Luna, EXCEL Award Chair and Director of Publishing of Meeting Professionals International added, “The depth and sophistication of the entries is affirmation that many organizations are stewards of strong narrative writing, inquisitive reporting and impactful design. It is the attention to detail throughout the entries that exemplifies the best of our associations’ publishing skills and commitment to their members.”

The winner of the distinguished Extra! Awards was also announced last night in Washington, DC. The winner of the Best in Show Extra! Award is NPR Report, National Public Radio, submitted by Bates Creative.

AM&P also award three rising stars the 2018 Emerging Leader Awards. It recognizes up-and-coming association publishing and communications professionals. Recipients are individuals who are making a clear impact on their organizations and our industry. The winners are: Danielle Gudakunst, Managing Editor at International Association of Chiefs of Police ; Dorea Reeser, Audience Engagement Editor, Chemical & Engineering News at American Chemical Society; Sara Mischo, Program Manager at the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA).

The 3rd Annual Mitch Mohanna Lifetime Achievement Award was given out during the EXCEL Gala. This special merit award is chosen by and presented by the Board of Directors to an industry service provider that has performed an outstanding service to AM&P and achieved accomplishment spanning a career in association media and publishing. The award went to Michael Winkleman, President of Leverage Media LLC.
