SIIA Congratulates Secretary Ross; Says Attention Needed on Data Flows, Regulatory Reform and More

Washington, D.C. (February 27, 2017)   The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) congratulates Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross on his confirmation today by the United States Senate.  SIIA members are leaders in the global market for software and information products and services, and they are drivers of innovation and economic strength.

SIIA Vice President for Public Policy, Mark MacCarthy, issued the following statement:

“SIIA congratulates Secretary Ross on his confirmation to lead the Department of Commerce, where he will be the primary voice of U.S. businesses.  Advancing the digital economy and continuing the global leadership of America’s tech companies will require the Secretary’s attention on some key issues, including cross-border data flows, the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield and regulatory reform. As he conducts an expedited review of U.S. regulations affecting manufacturing, we believe Sec. Ross can play an important role in identifying outdated regulations that stifle innovation and growth in the digital marketplace.

“We look forward to working with Secretary Ross on these and other issues that are essential for advancing technology’s role in growing both U.S. jobs and the U.S. economy.”
