SIIA Welcomes House Judiciary Markup of H.R. 1695; Urges Swift House Passage
Washington, D.C. (March 30, 2017) – Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee passed H.R. 1695. SIIA praised the House Judiciary Committee’s efforts and urged swift House passage.
SIIA Senior Vice President of Public Policy, Mark MacCarthy issued the following statement:
“The elevation of the Register to a Senate-confirmed presidential appointee reflects a bi-partisan recognition of both the importance of the copyright industries to the U.S. economy, and the need for Congress to have independent copyright advice. It is the first, much-needed step towards Copyright Office Modernization. We are especially grateful for the hard work of Chairman Goodlatte and Ranking Member Conyers in bringing people together.”
“Congress relies on the independent, objective copyright policy advice that the Copyright Office provides it as a co-equal branch of government, and this bill helps preserve that critical role. We look forward to continuing to work with Members of Congress on this matter and urge the House to pass it quickly.”
