3 Things You Don’t Want to Miss at AM&P 17

Are you ready to AMP It Up? AM&P’s Annual Meeting is just a month away.

The Annual Meeting is one of the high points of the year. Here are just a few of things you won’t want to miss.

Connecting and Reconnecting With Peers and Friends

I remember my first AM&P Annual Meeting like it was last year. OK. You got me. My first year was last year, but the point is that it was memorable, and that was in large part because of the tremendous people I met. Every conference touts its networking opportunities, but there is a big difference between sharing contact information and sharing a passion for association work like AM&P members do. (Don’t worry. They will also share contact information). The people I knew and the people I was meeting for the first time greeted me the same way — like old friends eager to catch up. Of course, these old friends were also experts in the industry, innovative leaders, and top-of-the-line service providers. Trust me, those are good friends to have.

Checking Out Excellence at the EXCEL Awards

The EXCEL Awards celebrate the top work in our industry, and I know I’m not alone in being excited to see the best of the best on display as the winners are announced. Seeing the brilliant work being done in the industry is inspiring and invigorating. I have always enjoyed the energy that is created from people seeing excellent endeavors and the ensuing conversations — "How did you do that?” or "How can we do that?” It certainly doesn’t hurt that the EXCEL Awards Gala is a swanky good time and a great way to start your conference experience. Don’t forget to register for the gala separately.

Growing and Learning From Great Programs and Speakers

On top of a stellar line-up of presentations and speakers this year, there are a few that I am particularly excited about. Pentagram Design partner DJ Stout is our keynote speaker. If you are involved in any sort of content that is produced or consumed in a visual medium, you can learn volumes from this man. (And, yes, I mean everyone). Julissa Arce, a well-known writer, immigrant rights advocate, and CNBC contributor, will be presenting on the incredibly important — and incredibly timely — topic of diversity in the workplace. And then there is the brand new Alumni Track of sessions. How cool is that?! The only downside to the presentations this year is that there are too many good ones, and I can’t possibly make it to all of them.

But I’m sure I’ll see you there and we can fill each other in on the sessions we couldn’t make it to. In fact, if you’d be interested in writing a brief article about one of the sessions you attend as part of the Annual Meeting coverage in Signature and Sidebar, email at
