Christine Brendle is the Managing Director of Dow Jones in Asia Pacific. Based in Hong Kong, she leads the strategic development of Dow Jones throughout the region. In Asia Pacific, Dow Jones publishes The Wall Street Journal Asia, operates Dow Jones Newswires, Dow Jones Factiva and several localized Web sites, including asia.WSJ.com, Chinese-language cn.WSJ.com and Japanese-language jp.WSJ.com.

Ms. Brendle joined Dow Jones in February 2006, following a 17-year career with the Hachette Filipacchi publishing group in Asia, the U.S. and Europe.

From 1995 to 2001, Ms. Brendle served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Hachette Filipacchi Asia Pacific and from 1993 to 1995 served as Vice President, Asia Pacific, and Managing Director, Hong Kong and China. Ms. Brendle also served in a number of other roles for Hachette Filipacchi: from 1991 to 1993 for Hachette Filipacchi Japan and Time Hachette Japan; from 1988 to 1991 for ELLE Publishing and Hachette Publications Inc. in New York; and from 1984 to 1988 for Hachette Filipacchi Presse S.A. in France.

Prior to joining the Journal, Ms. Brendle spent several years as a media-industry consultant and publishing entrepreneur. In 2004, she and her partners launched Daily7 and Daily10, two daily English-language newspapers for children.

Ms. Brendle also serves as a foreign trade adviser to the French Trade Commission, a role she has enjoyed since 2000.

Ms. Brendle received an M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business Administration of Columbia University in New York, and a diploma from ESSEC (Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales) in France.

Previously Don was the head of Madura Associates, Inc., an international market data consulting firm specializing in the selection and optimization of market data services in open distributed environments, where he worked with extensively with large bulge bracket investment banks. Before joining Instinet, James served at Citi from 2004-2008 in various executive capacities including Head of Business Development in US Equities, Head of Derivatives DMA and Head of Market Structure Investments. He launched Citi’s first institutional derivatives DMA desk in 2005 and was instrumental in the company’s acquisition of Lava Trading and Knight Trading Group’s Derivatives Markets business in 2004, as well as Citi’s investment in BATS Trading in 2007. During his tenure at Citi, he served as a board member for the Boston Equities Exchange and BATS, as well as a board observer for LeveL ATS.

Earlier in his career, James was Head of Strategic Development at OptiMark, which acquired Ashton Technology Group in 2002 to form Vie Financial Group, where he was appointed Chief Financial Officer. Prior to this, he worked in investment banking at both Merrill Lynch and Lazard, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, debt capital markets and risk management.

In December 2008, David Berry joined UBS in the Market Data Global Sourcing department He was Head of Procurement and Cost Control Royal Bank of Canada Capital Markets Europe from May to Nov 2008. From 2006 to 2008 he was Global Head of Market Data at Barclays Capital, the Investment Banking arm of Barclays Bank PLC. From 2001 to 2006 he worked for SGCIB, the Corporate & Investment Banking arm of Société Générale Group. He first worked as Head of Supplier Management for Market Data Services and held a number of managerial positions within SGCIB’s Information Technology department. He was appointed Global Head of Market Data Commercial in 2004. From 1993 to 2001, David worked for Morgan Stanley, first in the Fixed Income, Commodities and Foreign Exchange department, where he held Sales and Trading posts in Frankfurt and Paris. Later, he worked in their Market Data and Technology department in London. He is Vice-President of COSSIOM in charge of relations with IPUG, Member of the Executive Committee at IPUG and Co-Chair of the Consumer Constituent Group at FISD. A French national, David was educated in Germany where he holds a “Diplomkaufman.” He also earned a “Diplome des Grandes Ecoles” degree in Paris. David M. Blitzer is managing director and chairman of Standard & Poor’s Index Committee with overall responsibility for index security selection, as well as index analysis and management.

Prior to becoming Chairman of the Index Committee, Dr. Blitzer was Standard & Poor’s Chief Economist. Before joining Standard & Poor's, he was Corporate Economist at The McGraw-Hill Companies, S&P's parent corporation. Prior to that, he was a Senior Economic Analyst with National Economic Research Associates, Inc. and did consulting work for various government and private sector agencies including the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the National Commission on Materials Policy, and Natural Resources Defense Council.

Dr. Blitzer is the author of Outpacing the Pros: Using Indices to Beat Wall Street’s Savviest Money Managers, (McGraw-Hill, 2001) and What’s the Economy Trying to Tell You? Everyone’s Guide to Understanding and Profiting from the Economy, (McGraw-Hill, 1997). In the year 2000, Dr. Blitzer was named to SmartMoney magazine’s distinguished list of the 30 most influential people in the world of investing, which ranked him seventh, and in the year 1998, Dr. Blitzer was named the nation’s top economist, receiving the Blue Chip Economic Forecasting Award for most accurately predicting the country’s leading economic indicators for four years in a row. A well known speaker at investing and indexing conferences, Dr. Blitzer is often quoted in the national business press, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Financial Times, and various other financial and industry publications. He is frequently heard on local and national television and radio.

Magnus Cattan is business development director, Interactive Data (Asia). Based in Hong Kong, he is focused on sales development and strategy for fixed income and structured products, as well as Interactive Data’s pricing and reference data services in Asia.

From 1999, Mr Cattan worked with Interactive Data’s fixed income descriptive data team and in 2000 he was asked to set up an evaluations support team. From 2001 to 2004, Mr Cattan was manager of the European bond support team, working on several long-term projects including the implementation of evaluations for the European and Asian Lehman Indices, European asset-backed securities (ABS) and mortgage-backed securities (MBS).

From April 2005, Magnus Cattan was manager, Fixed Income and Derivatives, responsible for Interactive Data's valuation business in Europe. During this time he helped to build, promote and market several specialist offerings such as a risk and analytical datafeed, pre-payment sensitive European ABS and residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) evaluations, credit default swap valuations, interest rate swap valuations and, most recently, valuations for highly complex structured products.

Mr Cattan has also worked as a sales and marketing associate for Gartmore Asset Management's Institutional Fixed Income and Currency Overlay Funds.

Bryan joined the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) in August 2000 as the Senior Vice President responsible for Group Risk Management. Bryan was appointed Deputy Head of the Clearing Division of HKEx responsible for the operation and business development of the clearing and settlement of exchange trades in April 2001. Since 1 August 2005, Bryan has been the Head of Information Services Department of HKEx. The Department was recently renamed as the Market Data Department.

Before joining HKEx, Bryan had worked in the Administrative Officer grade for the Hong Kong Government for over 12 years. His postings in the government included Trade Department, HK Government’s delegation to the World Trade Organisation in Geneva and Financial Services Bureau.

Bryan graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering major in Computer Engineering.

Steve joined MDSL in 2012 as the Americas Lead on the MDX Consulting Team. Steve has over 20 years’ experience in a wide range of market data management activities at Tier 1 investment banks and their asset management divisions, as well as at several vendor organizations. This experience on both sides of the negotiating table has honed his ability to provide spend reduction solutions and expert market data management guidance to consumer organizations. In 2011 Steve consulted at BNY Mellon, and was also a Co-Chair for the Consumer Constituency Group at FISD. From 2005 to early 2011, Steve was a Vice President on the Market Data Sourcing Team at Credit Suisse, primarily focused on negotiating reference data licensing agreements. While at Credit Suisse Steve later managed the global consolidation and centralization of all index licensing agreements, implemented structured index licensing negotiations, and provisioned Expense Management with index licensing spend metrics. Prior, Steve was a Vice President on Citigroup Asset Management’s Vendor Management Team, until CAM was acquired in August 2005. In early 2004 Steve consulted to the Vendor Management Team at Lehman Brothers. Prior, Steve was a Reference Data Licensing Analyst on the Vendor Management team at Morgan Stanley from 1997 through 2003, and previously was on the Fixed Income Trading Technology Team at CS First Boston. Mr. Iwanaga has 20 years experience in the financial information industry and is the Asia Pacific Regional Head of Market Data Strategy & Business Management for Citigroup. As Regional Head of MDS Strategy for Citi Mr. Iwanaga is responsible for executing one of the industries largest global market data restructuring & reengineering efforts across the region in addition to managing one of the regions largest market data budgets. Mr. Iwanaga started his career with Moody's Investors Service in the US then moving to Dow Jones Telerate in Japan before joining UBS (Swiss Bank Corp. at the time) and transferring to Zurich, Switzerland to manage market data in Europe. Daniel is the Vice President of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx). He joined HKEx in April 2001 as the Head of Derivatives Clearing Operations responsible for managing the two derivatives clearing houses. Since May 2009, Daniel has been appointed the Head of Sales and Marketing Team of the Market Data Department to lead the promotion of HKEx's information services.

Before joining HKEx, Daniel was the Deputy Managing Director of TD Waterhouse, Hong Kong and Deputy Branch Manager of the Toronto Dominion Bank, Hong Kong.

Olivier Rose

He had a long experience in various subjects regarding Market and Insurance activities and specifically Trading, Operations, Fund Administration, Accounting and IT developments also in 2004 he joined SGSS to participate to the ALFAS Project, taking in charge the Data Market matters in Europe. Olivier is a graduate of the University of California, Riverside after a master in management at La Sorbonne in PARIS.
He is also, since 1988, lecturer in various educational financial and market programs (AFG-HEC, University PARIS X etc..). He had participated, and still participate, in various influential bodies to sponsor securities services and market participants point of view.

 

Cynthia Sachs

Cynthia Sachs is Head of BVAL's GSAC Division focusing on its expansion into illiquid asset classes. Ms. Sachs recently joined Bloomberg from Morgan Stanley where she was the Head of High Yield Corporate Credit within its Global Proprietary Credit Group in New York and London. Ms. Sachs was Senior Portfolio Manager, Senior Trader and Investment Committee Chairperson of Morgan Stanley's multi-strategy credit business, managing $5 billion in long/short assets (cash and CDS) for both structured product issuance (CLOs) and relative value proprietary trading portfolios. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Ms. Sachs was a Managing Director at NATIXIS where she built and ran the Media, Entertainment, Telecommunications & Technology
Group within the U.S. Leverage Finance Group. In that capacity, she worked closely with various private equity sponsors in connection with their leveraged buyouts transactions as well as advising NATIXIS' Private Equity Sponsor Group on their limited partnership stakes. Ms. Sachs started her career as a sell side banker at Bank of America where she worked directly with both large corporate and middle market issuers in structuring and underwriting debt deals. Ms. Sachs has held various board of director seats and holds an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business and a BS from the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business.

Mr. Daisuke Tanaka is Head of Market Data Provision of Information Services Department at Tokyo Stock Exchange Inc. (TSE). The Market Data Provision Team is responsible for real-time data feed service, which is mainly provided to vendors and security firms. With the launch of Arrowhead, which started in January, 2010, TSE has expanded quote depth and lowered latency.

He joined the TSE in 1997 and has experienced working in key areas of the exchange such as market surveillance and listed company relations. Mr. Tanaka holds a Masters in Business Administration from Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

Originally from Ireland Peter has worked in senior financial technology roles in the UK, US and Asia. Peter draws on deep subject matter expertise in both the pre- and post-trade environments, telcomms, trading architecture and data management and has a demonstrated specialty in developing platform services that bring together communities within the financial space. He joined Thomson Financial ESG (now Omgeo) in 1991 as part of the founding team and worked in London, Singapore and the company’s headquarters in Boston. Peter was part of the executive team that defined and executed the merger with the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) creating Omgeo. Peter then joined the financial extranet provider Radianz (now BT Radianz) where he led global strategic business development. Among other things, Peter and his team was instrumental in developing their low-latency proximity hosting offering in NY, London and Tokyo. Most recently Peter led the successful development of the NYSE Technologies business in Asia. Under his leadership, the business established a strong enterprise software and services revenue flow in the areas of order routing, market data and exchange technology. Peter was instrumental in the acquisition of Japan-based Metabit in 2011 and the definition of NYSE Technologies’ global Liquidity Hub strategy. Peter has established deep and successful relationships around the region with exchanges, brokers and buy-sides.

Peter guest lectures on financial technology as part of Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Masters in IT (Finance) program. He is married with 2 children and is an active member of the Irish community in Singapore.

Previously, Mr. Trimarchi was Head of Product Development – Americas for the OTC pricing and Market data division at Tullett Prebon in New York. Tullett Prebon is one of the leading global interdealer-broker and a primary provider of market data information to vendors, market makers and asset managers in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Before joining Tullett Prebon, Mr. Trimarchi served as a Credit Derivatives Analyst at CDR, an independent credit research provider and as a Credit Analyst at the New York branch of Unicredit, one of the top Italian banks. Mr. Trimarchi earned his MBA from Columbia Business School and his MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico of Milan.

Robert Utter is commercial manager, Asia Pacific, Interactive Data. He is responsible for the commercial management of data content acquisition and client contracting for the Asia Pacific region. Prior to this, Robert had roles managing data content, product development, and online services.
Robert joined the business 26 years ago and has been responsible for a diverse range of business functions over the years, including the roles of data content manager and electronic publishing manager. This experience has given Robert a broad perspective on the market data industry, as well as detailed insight into the uses of market data by institutional clients and third party partners.

Robert has a Bachelors degree in English Literature from Harvard University.
