Tip 6: Listen to Your Peers

For the past 5 weeks I have been giving you tips on how to maximize your time at All About the Cloud and make the most of your attendance. This week I have ask some of my friends, who have attended for many years, to provide their tips for leveraging the conference to do business, grow your network and have fun.

Feyzi Fatehi, CEO, Corent Technology – “Invest in preparation. Figure out who you want to meet at the conference and why. Set up your meetings in advance. Invest in follow up!

Richard Dym, CMO, SpotlightTMS - “Enjoy the opening reception and blow out party, surprisingly you’ll find the after effects will force you to concentrate during the sessions and actually increase the value of the conference.”

Ralph Hibbs, Director, Marketing, Dell Boomi – “Be sure to attend the Networking Extravaganza on Wednesday night: food, beverages, entertainment, fun and networking all in one location.”

Eileen Boerger, President, Corsource Technology Group, Inc. – “In addition to attending sessions that discuss topics of importance to your business,  network with people who have similar situations or issues that can provide you with very valuable insights and advice.”

Jim Szafranski, SVP, Fiberlink Communications - “The speed networking session is a great way to create unexpected relationships with experts and leaders in our field and you don’t even have to submit a photo and profile ahead of time and be worried about a perfect match!”

There you have it. Don’t take it from me, listen to your peers!

An Interview with SIIA Member The Resumator

SIIA recently welcomed The Resumator to our community. I had a chance to chat with their Marketing Director, Laurie Barkman, to learn a bit more about the talent acquisition space. Read my interview below.

Rhianna: Welcome to SIIA! Tell me a little about The Resumator and what makes you unique.

Laurie: The Resumator is a recruiting platform to help fast-growing businesses confidently manage their hiring. We’ve made the system easy to use, easy to learn, and easy to implement, so small-to-medium sized businesses can save time and money hiring great people.  Our software provides tools that simplify hiring tasks, processes that any company can adapt, and the data to assist in making informed hiring decisions.

Rhianna: You are experiencing tremendous growth. In fact, I heard you are looking to almost double your staff this year. To what do you attribute the rapid growth rate?

Laurie: That’s true – we’re currently 18 people strong and we’re on track to end the year at about 30. We’ve built an talented core team. It’s because of their hard work, talent, and creativity that we’ve been able to achieve success in a relatively short time.

It’s also proof that the inspiration behind our product is sound. Our team has done a tremendous job executing on the vision of a simpler, more socially intelligent hiring solution. Since 2009, The Resumator has helped more than 900 companies develop their hiring process and attract over 1 million applicants.  Leading companies across all industries including Evernote, Atari, Mashable, IGN, ThinkGeek, Pinterest, and Klout use The Resumator to ramp up their hiring.

Rhianna: You recently announced a partnership with StartUp America, helping to fuel entrepreneurs. What is the significance of this partnership?

Laurie: We believe that the future lies in entrepreneurial solutions to everyday problems. Startup America is doing a great job of empowering entrepreneurs and generating excitement around their members.

The partnership with StartUp America gives us a chance to connect with a large number of people on the front lines of building innovative new companies. We offered StartUp America members about $12 million in free access to The Resumator to help ramp-up their teams and launch their businesses.

Rhianna: The talent acquisition for cloud service providers seems so intense right now. Are you seeing that as well? Are there other specific industries facing similar challenges?

Laurie: Looking at the hiring activity of employers using The Resumator, we have a few observations. Most notable is the strong demand for software engineers, which is common amongst technology companies including cloud service providers.  Additionally, there is strong hiring activity in other industries including marketing services, e-commerce, and health care. There is a growing demand for account managers, designers, customer support representatives, and nurses.

Tip #4: 10 Tips to Maximizing Your Time at All About the Cloud

Tip 4: 25 Top Software Business Products

On Monday we announced the finalists for the 27th Annual CODiE Awards, our peer-reviewed awards program. The winners of the 25 Software Business categories will be announced at All About the Cloud on May 10th during a special awards presentation where you can network with the winners. It is no surprise that this year’s category with the most nominations was Best Cloud Application/Service so what a better place to announce the winner than All About the Cloud. You will want to be at the awards presentation, not just to see who wins, especially if you are a finalist, but also to meet the companies selected as having the best products and services of the year! A complete list of finalist can be found here. Kudos to all the 2012 Finalists! I should also mention that for the second year in a row, SIIA member NetSuite, received the highest number of finalists nods. That is a tremendous feat!

Tip #3: 10 Tips to Maximizing Your Time at All About the Cloud

Tip 3: Leverage Your Time in San Francisco

For those of you who have attended All About the Cloud in the past, you know how much we pack into the program. Between conference sessions, networking activities, and business meetings, schedules fill up quickly. If this is your first time attending All About the Cloud we promise to keep you busy. Plan now to leverage both the audience we have gathered in San Francisco and also your visit to the Bay Area. While the conference will keep you busy on Wednesday and Thursday, utilize Monday, Tuesday and Friday to schedule other business meetings, maximizing your time in San Francisco. In fact, we have organized a number of pre-conference activities on Tuesday that you can leverage for meetings and networking. Speed Networking is a MUST! http://www.siia.net/aatc/2012/schedule.asp

Tip #2: 10 Tips to Maximizing Your Time at All About the Cloud

Tip 2: Do your pre-conference planning NOW!

We all know that time can get away from us. Business is booming and calendars are packed! I, like many of you, have waited until the last minute to plan my participation at an event, paying additional fees and ending up in a hotel across town. You can avoid any last minute scrambling by taking care of some pre-conference details now.

  1. Avoid any confusion when you arrive at the conference by registering now, not to mention you can take advantage of the early-bird savings.
  2. Plan to bring other colleagues and/or employees who would greatly benefit from attending the conference. In fact, you can save money with a corporate registration package, good for three people.
  3. Make reservations for transportation and hotel early. The Palace Hotel is a San Francisco landmark and we have negotiated a great room rate for our attendees. We fully expect the hotel to sell out of rooms as they have each year in the past so book now to avoid extra travel costs and time if forced to stay at a different hotel.
  4. Identify your goals for the conference. What is it that you want to get out of the 3 days? Are there certain people or companies you want to meet or specific knowledge you want to walk away with? Identifying your goals in advance will help you pick specific sessions you won’t want to miss and identify the companies/attendees you want to meet.
  5. Familiarize yourself with the sponsors. Take a look at the companies and determine who you want to meet with at the conference.
  6. Make sure all the networking activities are on your calendar. When you register you will have options for speed networking, welcome reception and the offsite extravaganza, all of which are, not just signature events, they are a must!

In the coming weeks we will be rolling out our online conference attendee portal where you will be able to request meetings with our sponsors and attendees. If you do the pre-planning now you will be ready to roll when we make this service available and on your way to maximizing your participation at All About the Cloud.

Tip #1: 10 Tips to Maximizing Your Time at All About the Cloud

We are just 10 weeks out until the 7th All About the Cloud conference in San Francisco. Since I have actively participated, and some may say survived, the last 6 years of this event I thought it would be helpful to share some tips on how to get the most from your conference attendance. Each week I, along with some featured guests, will provide tips to help you organize your time at the conference and leverage all that the event has to offer. To kick us off…

Tip 1: Come prepared with your questions! Over the past 7 years, we have had a number of widely recognized and distinguished speakers cross our stage. 2012 is no different! This year you will hear keynote presentations that will help ISVs scale their cloud offerings and enhance their products with mobile technologies. We will also be joined by a Pulitzer Prize Finalist who will give us a look ahead into the next stage of cloud disruption. An additional 50 experts will take the stage over the course of two days to address your most compelling business issues, ultimately providing you with the advice you need to grow and monetize your business.

All of our speakers, keynotes included, are happy to take questions from the audience. Come prepared with your questions. If you don’t get the answer you were looking for from the presentations or discussions don’t be afraid to ask. Our speakers benefit from your questions just as much as you benefit from their answers.
