SciVerse Applications - Elsevier, Science and Medical

SciVerse Applications is a platform for 3rd party apps that contextually integrate content, data and features into STM workflows on SciVerse Hub, ScienceDirect and Scopus. The platform is unique in scale and breadth, spanning domains and integrating into a significant portion of scholarly full-text content and the broadest abstract/citations database. It evolves the traditional STM publishing model.

SciVerse Applications enables personalization through free or paid apps. Content and context (e.g. what is the user reading) is available to the apps via APIs. Leveraging Open Source technology, an app built for SciVerse is easily extendable to other such implementations (e.g. iGoogle) or vice versa. Apps may also run outside of the SciVerse framework allowing broader syndication of SciVerse content.

SciVerse Applications promotes collaboration by engaging librarians, end users and 3rd party developers to crowd-source innovation. There are 70+ applications to date including:
    - Pangaea: reunite experiment data with the published articles
    - Protein Viewer: integrate viewer technology and reference data into articles
    - eReader Formats: most popular app converting full-text for mobile devices
    - VuFind: template app for libraries to contextually expose their catalog. Apps are easily cloned for all participating VuFind institutions.
    - Co-Author Network: identify co-authors and enable collaboration
