¤ SIIA Content Division Board of
Directors Election: Call for Nominations:
There are a few seats up
for election on the SIIA Content Division's Board of
Directors. The Content Division Board of Directors is a
volunteer group of 19-25 industry leaders that plan the
activities and agenda of the Content Division.
These are your representatives, and you will want to
have the best possible advocates for your interests.
Any full or associate member of the Content
Division who would like to be more involved in planning
the activities and agenda of the division and can
agree to attend at least 3 of 4 quarterly meetings per
year, is eligible to run for a seat on the Content
Division board. The next quarterly board
meeting will be scheduled at the end of the Content
Division Forum on May 19 in San Francisco. If you
are interested in running, please submit your nomination
to Jeff
Cutler or

¤ SIIA Board of Directors Election: Call
for Nominations: It’s time
for the 2004 Election of the SIIA Board of Directors.
The SIIA Board of Directors is the team that makes
decisions and sets priorities for the Association at
large. SIIA prides itself in having an open
process for electing its volunteer leadership. Any
full member of SIIA who feels they can commit the time
and energy is eligible to run for a seat on the SIIA
Board of Directors. The SIIA Board has eighteen
seats. In the upcoming election, we will elect eight new
Board members to two-year terms. The eight new Board
members will join the returning eight members. This new
Board will then appoint two additional Board members to
one year terms. If you, or a person from your executive
team, are interested in running for the SIIA Board,
please have a brief campaign statement (not to exceed
200 words), sent to Marnel Williams (mailto:mwilliams@siia.net?subject=SIIA
Board Nomination (from Content Division Newsletter))
no later than Monday, March 29, 2004. The campaign
statements will be bundled together and emailed to the
principal contact at each SIIA Full Voting member
company. Members will be able to vote online through a
password secure system. Members can be
self-nominated.

¤ Open Source: Strategies for
Licensing/Development
The rapid embrace of open source
software by many in the software industry raises novel
issues that impact the life-cycle of the software
product at a number of stages. Ted Sabety, principal of
Sabety +associates, will provide insight into effective
strategies for creating value through project management
techniques, due diligence and contracting, product
licensing terms, and important considerations regarding
the risks and rewards of developing or using software
products that have open source components.

study on salary and benefit practices in the Information
Content industry. The study - the first systematic
analysis of salary and staffing issues in the industry -
identified a shortage of appropriately skilled
professional talent as the most pressing workplace
challenge now facing Information Content executives. The
