As part of SIIA's continual efforts to help our members protect their valuable intellectual property rights. SIIA offers copyright registration service for members and non-members. Through this service, you can register your copyrighted works with the Copyright Office for a fraction of the cost a private law firm might charge.

The Benefits of Copyright Registration: Although a copyright exists from the moment the copyrighted work is created, registration of copyright ownership often is important. Most significantly:

• A registration informs the public of your claim of copyright in the work and the ownership of the copyright;

• If you register your copyrighted work before someone infringes it and prevail in a lawsuit against that infringer you can recover your attorneys' fees and statutory damages;

• If you register within five years of publication of your copyrighted work, that registration is strong evidence that the copyright is valid and that you are the owner of the copyrighted work; and

• U.S. citizens cannot bring a copyright infringement action in a U.S. court unless they first register the copyrights that are the subject of the lawsuit.
