Thomson Scientific

Peter McKay is Managing Director of Derwent Information and Chief Operating Officer of Thomson Scientific. Thomson Scientific is the strategic business unit of the Thomson Corporation that encompasses ISI and Derwent Information. It is focused on serving the scientific information needs of the Corporate, Professional, Academic and Government markets.

Prior to joining Derwent Information in January 2000 he worked for two other Thomson companies in Marketing and General Management roles. Previously he has worked for Harcourt, Brace Jovanovich and Macmillan.

He has served on a wide range of industry committees and work groups focusing particularly on the digital domain. He has served the UK Publishers Association, the Federation of European Publishers and the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers.

Peter is a long time publishing professional having joined the industry in 1977 after a short career as a schoolteacher. He is a graduate of the University of Leeds, England.

Over the last several years, the Internet and information technologies have combined to provide new capabilities for government to make available and directly disseminate information. Both the audience for government information and the services that agencies can now provide have expanded far beyond those of the print world. Panelists will discuss some of the emerging models and new initiatives being undertaken by government agencies that are building on years of working to transition from print to electronic.
