Alternative Weighting of Indexes

Market Cap weighting has long been the standard for index calculations. However, recently there has been a noticeable movement toward ‘alternative’ weightings and the resulting change from simple performance measurement to the implementation of strategies.  This session will examine the differences between market cap weighted indexes and other alternative weightings and the differences in historical performance between the two.  We’ll explore the purposes, the trade-offs, and the benefits of these alternative mechanisms.
