Increasingly, index providers are developing “smart beta” indexes that provide specific exposures to certain market factors using a variety of selection, weighting, and timing techniques. In addition to creating more specific signals, providers can also help investors manage some of the traditional “noise” that comes with more active strategies, such as turnover and tracking error to a broad market benchmark.

Dave Gedeon, Managing Director, NASDAQ OMX Global Information Services is responsible for the product development at NASDAQ OMX’s index and data business and previously led the research and development team of NASDAQ OMX’s index business. Under his direction, NASDAQ OMX has launched thousands of indexes resulting in both innovative benchmarks and index-tracking products. Notable launches include the NASDAQ Multi-Asset Income indexes, the NASDAQ Global Index family, the NASDAQ OMX Axioma Equity-Commodity family and the NASDAQ Commodity Index family. He also played an integral role in the 2011 NASDAQ-100 index special rebalance. Dave joined NASDAQ OMX in 2005. He is a graduate of Denison University with a BA in economics.

Bill has been in the Securities Industry for 42 years, and recently joined JPMorgan Chase Bank after 12 years with Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc. to manage Exchange and Index Relations for Market Data. His continuing goal is to expand the uses of information while reducing or eliminating administrative burdens. Prior to New York Investment Banks Bill spent 18 months in Egypt working with Chemonics International consulting for the Egyptian Capital Markets Authority and the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange. Bill was a Senior Vice President at the Boston Stock Exchange where he served in many capacities including managing the Trading Floor, Corporate Communications and as the representative to the Consolidated Tape Association. In his early years, Bill worked for Merrill Lynch while putting himself through both under Graduate and Graduate degree programs at Suffolk University in Boston.

Bryan Lenker is a Vice President of the Content and Technology Solutions team. He joined FactSet in 2004 and currently manages the FactSet DataFeed team for the New York and Southeast regions. Bryan is a CFA charterholder.

Jim Sudol is a Director in Jordan & Jordan’s Market Data Practice with over 25 years of practical project management experience including the last nine years at Jordan & Jordan. Focusing on supporting clients and positioning them to confront the challenges of market data management, Jim has lead or participated in numerous critical initiatives such as market and reference data compliance assessments, exchange market data commercial model development, contract review and interpretation, and end-to-end market data administration and expense control guidance. Jim works with a broad range of industry participants to help them understand and resolve dynamic market data related issues that confront them. Clients include index developers, global and regional investment banks, security exchanges, and data vendors. Jim also manages J&J’s Exchange Market Data Advisory Service, advising clients of relevant exchange market data policy developments and day-to-day enquiries. Jim has served/co-served on the FISD Executive Committee since 2009 and holds a BS degree in Business Management from the Pennsylvania State University.
