Taking the Data Licensing Module Exam

The FISD Data Licensing Module focuses on some of the knottiest issues facing the financial services industry.

Data licensing, compliance, and the various ways data can be derived and redistributed can be the source of headaches. A deep understanding of data licensing and its attendant issues can help professionals:

  • Avoid costly fees for non-compliance or paying for data when they shouldn’t.
  • Understand their customers’ pain points.
  • Speak the language of vendors, sub-vendors, and end users – understanding all sides of data licensing makes you a more effective communicator on behalf of your business.

The first in a planned series of FISD Level 2 exams, the Data Licensing Module is a 100-question multiple choice exam. Like the FISD FIA, the Data Licensing Module is given on a computer at a formal testing center. Candidates have up to 2 hours 40 minutes to complete the exam. Testing company Kryterion administers FISD Professional Certifications at any of its 900+ global testing centers.

The official syllabus lists the key concepts candidates must master in order to pass the exam. These are organized into three sections: Firms and Roles in the Licensed Data Life Cycle, Licensing, and Governance, Compliance and Audit.

Taking the Exam

KryterionTest takers schedule an exam location, date, and time online through Kryterion’s Webassessor portal. Test centers are located in convenient locations in most major cities globally. FISD provides a step-by-step guide to registering for the FISD FIA.  No test dates available in your area? Contact Hope Wilkes.

Test takers should save all confirmation emails. Confirmation messages contain important information related to the exam including username, password, and the test access code needed on exam day. Test takers will need their username and password information in case they should wish to cancel, reschedule, or book a retake exam. Any cancellations or rescheduling must be done at least 72 hours before a booked exam.

Every candidate is required to physically appear at their specified testing center at the reserved time so their exam can be supervised by test center personnel.

Candidates must bring at least two pieces of photo identification. At least one must be an official government ID, e.g. a passport or driver’s license.

How Secure is the Test?

Kryterion keeps the test secure, ensuring the value of the certification is protected. Close monitoring and the ID requirements serve two purposes:

  • Verify test taker identity. Kryterion makes sure that test takers are who they say they are – no imposter may take the test on the behalf of someone else.
  • Prevent cheating. Test takers cannot exchange information with others, refer to notes, or access the Internet during the exam.
