General Questions

Who is the exam intended for?

The FISD FIA is intended for people who work with market and/or reference data. That includes data users, salespeople, and other professionals working in the financial information industry who would benefit from an improved understanding of how the industry works. The most critical audience is people with 1-3 years of work experience, but candidates with more and less experience have both benefited from earning the certification.

What material is covered on the exam?

The exam follows the FISD FIA syllabus which is broken down into four sections: The Markets (30%), Data (30%), Technology (30%), and Issues & Trends (10%).

How many questions are on the exam?

There are 150 multiple choice questions on the exam.

How long do I have to take the exam?

You may take up to 160 minutes (2 hours and 40 minutes) to complete the exam.

What is the score required to pass the exam?

You must score at least 75% on the exam to pass. Scores are not rounded.

What is the pass rate for the exam?

The pass rate for the FISD FIA is about 76%.

How many times can someone take the exam?

Exam retakes are unlimited and there is no required waiting period between attempts. Results never expire and scores are not published, so you don’t need to complete a retake unless you didn’t achieve a passing score.

How much does the exam cost?

The fee for a single exam is $575. Refer to the FIA Pricing page for information on available discounts.

Are any discounts available?

When will I receive my results?

Your result will appear immediately on your computer screen once you submit your exam answers. An email containing the same information will also be sent to the email address you provided during registration.

When will I receive my plaque?

Fill out the form linked in your score confirmation email to supply FISD with your correct mailing address and appearance of your name. If the form does not work for you, send your correct name and mailing address to Michael Zingali upon completion of your exam. Once shipped, plaques may take up to two weeks to arrive, depending on where you live.You will receive tracking details when your plaque ships. Note: tracking details for plaques sent to destinations outside of the United States may be limited.

Can I have different name displayed in the FIA directory and/or on my plaque?

Yes. Confirm your preferred name with Michael Zingali and if you would like it to appear that way in the plaque, directory, or both.

Can I have a PDF copy of my FIA certificate?

Yes. Email Michael Zingali to request a PDF certificate.

Can I submit a comment or testimonial about my exam experience?

Of course! We’re happy to collect your comments about the FISD FIA. Please be aware that your testimonial may be used in marketing materials unless you specifically request that it not be used. Contact Hope Wilkes with your feedback.

Can I withhold my information from appearing in the FISD FIA directory?

Yes. Email Hope Wilkes to request that your name be kept out of the FISD FIA directory.

Who can verify my certification for a job reference?

Registering for the Exam

How do I register for the exam?

Refer to this guide for information on how to register for the exam.

When should I register for the exam?

That’s up to you – mostly. Plan your preparation and choose a date when you expect to be ready to achieve the passing score. If you’re using a voucher, you need to register for your exam within a year of the voucher’s date of issue. Check with the person coordinating the FISD FIA for your team, or contact Hope Wilkes to confirm. Bear in mind that any changes to your exam schedule must be made at least 72 hours in advance of the exam. That rule holds regardless of when you booked the exam. It’s recommended that unless you’re absolutely certain you can make your planned exam time, you should book with enough lead time to make a schedule change in accordance with the 72-hour rule just in case.

Is there a testing center near me?

Probably. Use this tool to find out if any of Kryterion’s 900+ testing centers is near you. If you can’t find a convenient testing center, contact Hope Wilkes about special accommodations.

What testing dates, times are available?

You can choose your own exam date and time from what’s available at any of the 900+ Kryterion testing centers. Create an account and start the registration process and start the registration process to find exam times at a testing center near you.

How do I reschedule my exam?

All exam schedule changes are self-service. Sign into your Kryterion account and click the link that says Reschedule/Cancel to make changes. View this PDF of the steps to reschedule.

How do I register to re-take the exam?

Sign into your existing Kryterion account and choose the option to Register for a New Exam. In the exam catalog, choose FISD Financial Information Associate RETAKE (2016), priced at $150. Refer to this guide for help proceeding through the registration screens. If the $150 retake exam does not appear available to you, it is likely because you missed your previous exam. How do I apply a voucher code when registering for the exam?

Once you have chosen a testing center and date, you will begin the checkout process. Enter your voucher code in the box marked Coupon/Voucher Code then click Redeem to apply the code to your purchase. You will not be prompted for additional payment.

Are any bulk discounts available?

Yes. Refer to the FIA Pricing page for information on available discounts.

Not everyone on my team is ready to take the exam, can I still purchase registrations for them?

Yes. You may purchase vouchers that your colleagues can use to register for the exam at their convenience. Vouchers expire one year from date of issue, so encourage your colleagues to get serious about prepping for the exam.

How do bulk purchases work?

If you intend to purchase training for your exam candidates, first contact the trainer and arrange that purchase. Contact Hope Wilkes to request an invoice for the number of exams you wish to purchase and indicate if you should receive a training discount and which trainer (if any) you are using. Provide a PO# if required by your company, name and address of the invoice recipient, and information about how to submit the invoice for payment if it needs to be sent to someone other than you. Once the invoice has been settled, you will be sent a list of vouchers which your exam candidates may use to register for the exam at their leisure. Exam vouchers replace a credit card during the payment portion of the registration process. Vouchers are valid one year from date of issue.

There is inclement weather in my area. What happens if I can't make it to my exam?

Refer to your exam registration confirmation email for information about how to contact your test center. Call the test center to verify whether they are open for exams. If the test center is open for exams and you do not make it for your exam slot, you will be counted as a no-show and your exam fee will be collected. No refunds are given for no-shows. Neither FISD nor Kryterion can control how a testing center makes the decision about closing during inclement weather.
