Training and Educational Resources
How candidates acquire the knowledge needed for passing the
test is entirely at their own discretion. If a candidate
believes they have enough knowledge based on their existing
experience they may elect to take the test without any further
training or education. However, in most cases candidates will
either require education on all aspects of the Syllabus or
most likely on parts.
FISD has liaised closely with a number of training
organizations and these third party groups will provide
courses and/or resources which will provide access to the
knowledge set required to pass the test.
At this first stage in the development of formal certification
FISD is not conducting a formal accreditation of training
organizations. It is therefore essential that candidates check
the precise content of any training course and the credentials
of the training organization. Three broad categories of
training are available:
Public Classroom and Online Training Courses
Open to all candidates and are normally held at convenient
locations within major cities such as London and New York.
Courses vary in length and can range from a single day, for an
overview, to more detailed sessions lasting 3 or 4 days.
Prices are normally chargeable per candidate per day.

Bespoke, Private Training Courses
Typically run internally within a member firm’s premises and
with candidates from only that member firm attending. For
firms with a reasonable number of candidates (e.g. more than 7
or 8) this option is economically attractive as prices are
negotiated directly with a trainer and are per course not per
candidate. Firm’s wishing to organise this type of training
should expect to cover the travel and accommodation costs of
the trainer and a negotiated day rate for the actual training.
In addition they should provide the training facilities (i.e.
the classroom).
The following trainers are available for bespoke training
assignments. Please note that in most cases these trainers are
happy to travel. It should also be noted that a US based
trainer is not necessarily the lowest cost for US training and
similarly a European based trainer may not offer the cheapest
deal in Europe.
Remote, Distance Learning Resources
For candidates and organisations who find it impractical,
uneconomic or just unsuited to their learning style FISD aims
to work with our third party trainers and our broader
membership to deliver a variety of educational resources in
support of the FIA certification. At this point in time no
resources are available but a set of eLearning modules is
expected to be ready for commercial delivery in JUNE 2013.
