Michael
E. Wilens is president of West
Group, the foremost provider of e-information and solutions
to the U.S. legal market. Headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota,
West Group is a division of the Thomson Legal & Regulatory
Group (TLRG), which oversees all of The Thomson Corporation's
(TSE:TOC) legal and regulatory businesses worldwide, including
businesses in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North
America. Wilens reports directly to Brian H. Hall, CEO of
West Group and president and CEO of TLRG.
Prior
to his appointment as president, Wilens was executive vice
president and chief technology officer (CTO) for West Group.
Wilens has also served as interim CTO for The Thomson Corporation
and CTO for Thomson's legal and regulatory businesses. As
West Group CTO, he was responsible for developing new technology-based
businesses, coordinating West Group technology, leading advanced
product development and managing the technical infrastructure
at West Group.
Wilens
formerly served as CEO of Legion Ltd. (a division of Lagardere
Group), the London-based provider of services to the international
telephone company market. Prior to Legion, he was the vice
president and CTO for Lawyers Cooperative Publishing (LCP).
Before joining LCP he served as vice president of technology
and chief operating officer for HCIA Inc., a provider of medical
information in Baltimore, Md.
Wilens
holds an M.B.A. and an M.S. in computer science from the University
of Michigan, and an S.B. and S.M. in electrical engineering
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He serves
on the board of advisers for the Minnesota Journalism Center
and the board of directors for the Greater Twin Cities United
Way.
Wilens
resides in Eagan, Minnesota, with his wife, Carolyn Longacre,
and their daughter, Ann.
