8:50 AM - 9:35 AM | Curse of the Mogul In The Curse of the Mogul, What’s Wrong with the World’s Leading Media Companies, Jonathan Knee and his co-authors assert that the megalomania of celebrity moguls at the helms of media conglomerates has run rampant, with shareholders footing the bill. Moguls have successfully propagated the myth that both makes them appear indispensable to the business and justifies their lousy performance. The ugly truth is that the largest media companies have written off well over $200 billion in assets from their collective balance sheets since 2000. This underperformance is the consequence of bad decisions made by "cursed" moguls who overpay for acquisitions, "strategic" investments and contracts for talent and content. In the opening keynote, Knee will turn his sights onto the B2B paid content industry where he has long and established roots. He will highlight the characteristics of the "cursed" mogul, the overlooked sources of value within media companies and the strategies that can unlock them. If you believe content is king and growth is always good, prepare to be tested. Keynote: Jonathan Knee, Senior Managing Director, Evercore |

Many industries are resetting their business models for new realities, enabled by the virtualization of people, process and platform; the proliferation of cloud computing; the rapid influx of millenials into the workforce; and the ever-expanding brain power made possible by globalization's inexorable rise. Today, these four forces seem to be at the periphery of the traditional corporate model. By 2015, they will become central -- and transformative -- to most organizations. Amid this disruption, companies across the IME and Communications spectrum will need new platforms of collaboration to unleash greater productivity and levels of business performance. As a result, IT must take a more central role, devising business-IT strategies that enable organizations to work more virtually and efficiently. |
