February 15, 1934
Niklaus Emil Wirth, developer of the Pascal programming language, was born in Switzerland. He was the chief designer of many programming languages taught in high school and college courses. He is credited with an adage known as Wirth's law: "Software is getting slower more rapidly than hardware becomes faster."
