PANEL - Achieving strong ROI at a point of high speed saturation
Chicago has predilection for derivatives and a different trading culture and structure from New York, as seen in a much higher proportion of small nimble prop shops rather than bulge bracket ‘mega' dealing operations. We will discuss how best to leverage real time market data and the technology that underpins it. With the combined impacts of 1) accelerating costs for incremental speed, 2) ominously changing decay rates for many flavors of theoretical alpha, and 3) dramatic changes in market structure for tangential products like swaps, many proprietary trading firms are scrambling to re-invent themselves. In many ways, we have reached a point of high-speed saturation. As new trading strategies focus on factors other than just speed, what issues with respect to the use of data come into play?
