REGISTER NOW 2013 promises to be a year where many debates about copyright and its role in the digital economy will be at the forefront once again. 2012 resulted in the demise of U.S. legislation to stop piracy of U.S. content by overseas rogue websites and the rejection of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement in Europe, as well as progress on a first-ever international treaty to mandate exceptions to copyright. The impetus behind those actions - a growing call for restraints on copyright as a means of spurring innovation - continues to gain steam. Content providers can expect even more challenges to the basic rights that underpin nearly every information company's business strategies and revenues.
This event will feature two industry stalwarts, Kieth Kupferschmid from the SIIA and Dan Duncan from the McGraw-Hill Companies, discussing in layman's terms some of the policy proposals that the information content industry can expect to arise in 2013. They will focus on the why and where of numerous activities, from creating new exceptions to copyright in the U.S. and abroad, to restrictions on the freedom to license, and an increasing number of mass digitization and research efforts by that may signal a major shift on exactly what copyright law will protect in years to come and may require content providers to rethink their future business plans.
Join us at Noon at the McGraw-Hill Company offices in New York or via a webcast. Whether joining us live or webcast, it will be an insightful event to learn how the Copyright and Anti-Piracy agenda is impacting publishers, our industry and your business.
