SIIA Voices Support for Senate Cybersecurity Legislation
Organization Says Legislation will Make U.S. More Secure while Preserving Flexibility for Tech Companies to Innovate
Washington D.C. – July 30, 2013 – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal trade association for the software and digital content industries, today announced its support for the bipartisan Cybersecurity Act of 2013 (S. 1353), which was passed out of the Senate Commerce Committee this afternoon. SIIA President Ken Wasch issued the following statement:
“Flexibility is essential for companies fighting cybercrime in the current environment of sophisticated attacks and rapidly advancing technologies. A critical priority for SIIA is to preserve the ability of companies to innovate and to maintain technology neutrality.
“The bipartisan Rockefeller-Thune legislation takes the important step of expanding the cybersecurity partnership between the private sector and the government. Importantly, it advances efforts by NIST to facilitate the development of voluntary, industry-led standards, and it enhances cybersecurity education as well as research and development. The Cybersecurity Act will make our nation more secure while advancing innovation that leads to economic growth and a reduction in long-term cyber risk.
“We look forward to working closely with members of Congress and leaders in the Administration to continue addressing our collective cyber security challenges.”
