Mr. Bain manages and conducts SIIA litigation, including copyright and anti-piracy lawsuits on behalf of member companies in the software and publishing industries, as well as other litigation for the association and its members. He also conducts various compliance, educational, and policy initiatives relating to intellectual property.

Mr. Bain formerly was Vice President of Legal Affairs at the Recording Industry Association of America, where he led litigation and technology implementation to curb online copyright infringement. Before that, he was a partner at the law firm of Wiley Rein & Fielding LLP in Washington, D.C. Mr. Bain has litigated a wide variety of copyright, patent and other intellectual property cases, including three “NLJ 100” victories. In Lowry's Reports, Inc. v. Legg Mason, Inc. (D.Md. 2003), he was co-counsel for plaintiff Lowry’s in what was reported as "one of the largest copyright verdicts in American history," a $19.7 million award for the copying and internal distribution of financial newsletters priced at $700. In NTP, Inc. v. Research in Motion Ltd. (E.D. Va. 2002), his client NTP procured a highly publicized $612 million patent infringement settlement from the manufacturer of the BlackBerry device.

Mr. Bain is a frequent speaker and author on intellectual property topics. He is co-author of the 2005 book "Copyright Law in the Digital World: Basics, Law and Policy" and many other IP publications, is Co-Chair of the ABA International IP Committee. A former software engineer, he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. He received his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California-Berkeley in 1997, and following law school, clerked for the Honorable Randall R. Rader of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Daniela Barbosa is business development manager for the Dow Jones Enterprise Media Group, where she is responsible for the Dow Jones Client Solutions business semantic and taxonomy management tool, Synaptica. Ms. Barbosa works with large corporations in deploying information strategies through various parts of the enterprise, including helping them develop and manage their corporate vocabularies. Prior to this role, Ms. Barbosa was a solutions architect for Dow Jones Client Solutions and Factiva Consulting Services, before Factiva was acquired by Dow Jones in December 2006. In this role she was responsible for the definition and design of customer solutions that incorporated content from Dow Jones Factiva to enable customers to deliver business intelligence and actionable insight to the right people at the right time within their organization. She has worked with various Fortune 500 clients in the high-tech, consumer products, consulting, telecommunications, pharmaceutical and financial industries, as well as with many B2C customers. An avid social media fan and contributor, Ms. Barbosa was recently named me one of the “Seven Leading Corporate Social Media Evangelists” by ReadWriteWeb. She has participated in various speaking engagements and written on the topic of information delivery in the enterprise, including an ebook on hybrid approaches to folksonomies and taxonomies in the enterprise.

During a career spanning more than 20 years, Johna Burke has worked both as a public relations practitioner and a provider of PR services that are vital to the successful performance of communications professionals. For 11 years starting in 1989, she was associated with U-Haul International, ultimately becoming director of public and investor relations. Burke joined BurrellesLuce, in its Phoenix office, in 2000. She served as West Coast regional vice president, corporate vice president and is currently Marketing and Communication senior vice president.
Burke is a highly rated speaker who is often invited to talk about best practices in public relations, including the measurement of PR effectiveness, media relations, holistic communication programs and social media campaigns. Before that, Mike held a variety of positions in the private, government, and academic sectors, including four years as a cryptologic linguist in the U.S. Air Force.

Prior to joining SIIA, Keating was a Vice President at Easton Consultants where he was a member of the Financial & Information Services practice. Under Mr. Nieforth's guidance since 2007, Vitrium has successfully created a marketplace need for knowledge about the use of PDF documents and the value of their content. In the last year and a half, Mr. Nieforth has seen a huge growth in revenues and an exponential expansion of Vitrium's customer base. In 2009, Vitrium's product, Docmetrics, was named a SIIA CODiE Award Finalist for Best Document Management Solution.

Before taking over as CEO, Mr. Nieforth was Vitrium's CFO and Director of Sales. With extensive experience as an investor and financial specialist, he was Director of Investment at Loreto Bay Company, an Investment Specialist for BMO Bank of Montreal, and a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch. Mr. Nieforth also serves on the board of directors and audit committee of the publically listed Knightswood Financial.

He became managing editor of the San Francisco Chronicle in late 2002, and joined CIR as executive director in 2008.

Jonathan Weber

Prior to joining as Editor-in-Chief of The Bay Citizen, Weber worked as reporter, editor and media entrepreneur for more than 20 years.

He most recently served as CEO and editor-in-chief of New West Publishing, the Missoula, Montana-based media company that he founded in 2005. New West's flagship product is NewWest.Net, an award-winning local and regional online publication about the Rocky Mountain West. One of the earliest experiments in creating a new, Web-centric model for high-quality journalism, NewWest.Net combines traditional reporting and writing with various forms of participatory journalism. Weber also served as the first T. Anthony Pollner Distinguished Visiting Professor of Journalism at the University of Montana, and remains a member of the Journalism School Advisory Council.

Before founding New West Publishing, Weber served as the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Industry Standard, the highly-regarded San Francisco-based newsweekly that chronicled the dot-com boom of the late 1990's. Weber built the editorial staff from scratch to a peak of more than 100 journalists. The Industry Standard earned many awards and plaudits for its no-nonsense coverage of the Internet revolution.

Prior to the Industry Standard, Weber served eight years as a writer and editor at the Los Angeles Times, including three years as the Silicon Valley correspondent. He was also responsible for conceiving and launching "The Cutting Edge," the first technology section published by a major newspaper.

Weber began his journalism career with Fairchild Publications, and served in that company's Paris bureau, among other assignments. He was part of the launch team for Geneva-based World Link magazine, a publication of the World Economic Forum.

Andy Weissberg is a seasoned marketer, technologist and product development specialist, with over 15 years of digital publishing, e-learning, interactive multimedia and web-based application development experience.

Today, Andy manages the development and implementation of business opportunities and product development for Bowker’s Identifier Services Business Segment. This includes management of the U.S. ISBN Agency, Bowker’s Digital Object Identifier (DOI) Agency, and Bowker’s International Standard Text Code (ISTC) Agency operations. Andy currently serves on the Board of Directors of the International ISBN Agency and International ISTC Agency.

Prior to joining Bowker, Andy served as General Manager, Electronic Media for Advanstar Communications’ Life Sciences Group. In this role, he worked collaboratively with continuing medical education (CME) leadership, editorial, sales and technology teams to advance Advanstar’s strategic focuses on interactive promotion, market intelligence and e-learning.

Jonathan Yarmis has been a leading voice in the technology industry for over 30 years, with a variety of experience in industry analysis, end-user computing, and public and analyst relations.

Jonathan is currently Research Fellow at Ovum. Most recently, he was VP of Disruptive Technologies at AMR Research and spent 10 years at Gartner, heading up all end-user computing research. He has also worked at senior levels at PR firms Hill & Knowlton and Waggener Edstrom Worldwide. He produced and served as content chairperson for a variety of conferences and tradeshows at eMarketWorld, including ad:tech.

He is a regular speaker at industry events and appears regularly in a variety of print and broadcast media. Jonathan received his BA from Hamilton College.
