CEO & Founder, HubSpot Brian Halligan is CEO & Co-Founder of HubSpot, a marketing software company he co-founded four years ago to help businesses transform the way they market their products by "getting found" on the internet. Since its founding, HubSpot has already accumulated over 3,500 customers. He is author of two books: Inbound Marketing: Get Found Using Google, Social Media, and Blogs, which is in its fourth printing and has been translated into 6 languages, and Marketing Lessons From the Grateful Dead, published in August 2010. He is also an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at MIT. In his spare time, he sits on a few boards of directors, follows his beloved Red Sox, goes to the gym, and is learning to play guitar. |

He leads the Social Media Initiative at MIT, which is an effort to build a network of scholars, activists, artists and businesspeople interested in exploring the untapped potentials of the social in media. He is the author of Hip-Hop Japan (2006), an ethnography of Japanese rap musicians, which examines how local hip-hop took root and expanded as a vibrant and innovative scene. He focuses especially on performances in Tokyo nightclubs and recording studios. He is currently completing a book about Japanese animation, and how collaborative creativity is the key to anime's success as a global force. He received a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from Yale, and a B.A. in Government from Harvard. |

Research Scientist, MIT Media Lab Henry Lieberman has been a research scientist at the MIT Media Lab since 1987. His research interests focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence and the human interface. He directs the Lab's Software Agents group, which is concerned with making intelligent software that provides assistance to users through interactive interfaces. In 2001 he edited Your Wish is My Command, which takes a broad look at how to get away from "one size fits all" software, introducing the reader to a technology that one day will give ordinary users the power to create and modify their own programs. In addition, he is working on agents for browsing the Web and for digital photography, and has built an interactive graphic editor that learns from examples and annotation on images and video. |

VP, Public Policy, SIIA Mark MacCarthy joined the Software and Information Industry Association in February 2011 as Vice President for Public Policy. He directs their public policy initiatives in the areas of intellectual property enforcement, information privacy, cybersecurity, cloud computing and the promotion of educational technology. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Georgetown University, where he teaches courses in information privacy and tech policy in the Communication, Culture, and Technology Program, and courses in political philosophy in their Philosophy Department. His previous public policy experience includes senior positions with Visa, Inc., the Wexler Walker Group and Capital Cities/ABC and the Energy and Commerce Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. Associate Professor of Media Technology, MIT Media Lab Pattie Maes is an associate professor in MIT's Program in Media Arts and Sciences and associate head of the Program in Media Arts and Sciences. She founded and directs the Media Lab's Fluid Interfaces research group. Previously, she founded and ran the Software Agents group. Prior to joining the Media Lab, Maes was a visiting professor and a research scientist at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab. She holds bachelor's and PhD degrees in computer science from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium. Her areas of expertise are human-computer interaction, artificial life, artificial intelligence, collective intelligence, and intelligence augmentation. Maes is the editor of three books, and is an editorial board member and reviewer for numerous professional journals and conferences. She has received several awards: Newsweek magazine named her one of the "100 Americans to watch for" in the year 2000; TIME Digital selected her as a member of the Cyber-Elite, the top 50 technological pioneers of the high-tech world; the World Economic Forum honored her with the title "Global Leader for Tomorrow"; Ars Electronica awarded her the 1995 World Wide Web category prize; and in 2000 she was recognized with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council. |

LEGO Papert Professor of Learning Research, Academic Head, Program in Media Arts and Sciences, Co-Director, Center for Future Civic Media, IT Media Lab Mitchel Resnick, LEGO Papert Professor of Learning Research and head of the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Labo, explores how new technologies can engage people in creative learning experiences. Resnick's research group developed the "programmable brick" technology that inspired the LEGO MindStorms robotics kit. He co-founded the Computer Clubhouse project, a worldwide network of after-school centers where youth from low-income communities learn to express themselves creatively with new technologies. Recently, Resnick's group developed Scratch, an online community where children program and share interactive stories, games, and animations. Resnick earned a BA in physics at Princeton University (1978), and MS and PhD degrees in computer science at MIT (1988, 1992). He worked as a science-technology journalist from 1978 to 1983, and he has consulted throughout the world on creative uses of computers in education.
