John Gordon

Director of Business Development, Home Depot

John Gordon is the Director of Sales and Business Development or The Home Depot. John has been with The Home Depot since 1992 in a variety of positions including assistant manager, store manager, district manager, divisional pro sales manager, Director of Pro Business Operations, Director of Pro Marketing and Director of Strategic Accounts.

Prior to joining The Home Depot, John spent 12 years with Eighty-Four Lumber in positions ranging from Salesperson to Vice President of Regional Purchasing.

John has been active in the industry. He has served in several officer positions, and is a past National President of NARI. He is currently a trustee and Past President of the National Remodeling Foundation. John also attends the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies Remodeling to give and get relevant Remodeling Industry data and trending.

John has hosted a number of television and radio spots. He currently hosts two home improvement radio shows. The original show has aired for 19 years.

John holds a Bachelor’s degree from Villanova University.

Andrew Waite

Sarah Andersen

Sarah Andersen is the Publisher at Business Valuation Resources (BVR). She is accomplished business leader with over 16 years of executive management and writing experience. She joined BVR in 2011 to lead the company’s editorial staff and oversee its newsletters, e-zines, blogs, and books for the business valuation profession. Her team also produces training webinars for this niche audience. With a hybrid staffing model comprised of both in-office and remote employees, Sarah successfully manages the operations of BVR’s editorial and production departments while leading her tight-knit team toward continual growth.

 

Phil Binkow

Minal Bopaiah is the Executive Editor of Subscription Site Central, an online premium publication for publishers and marketers looking for proven tactics to sell more digital subscriptions. She has been an invited speaker for many industry events, including DataContent, Folio:'s MediaNext, the Financial Publisher's Roundtable and the Specialist Media Show in London.

Minal has been a top beat reporter, international editor and managing editor for numerous print and Web publications, and served as an educational content specialist at Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street. With a Master's degree in psychology and a certificate from Georgetown University in Organizational Consulting and Change Leadership, she also consults with media companies to help them manage and adapt to change.

 

Murray Bradford

President, Bradford and Company Publishing

Murray Bradford is the founder and president of Bradford and Company Publishing, Inc., and the publisher of Tax Reduction Letter. He is also the founder and president of Bradford and Company, Inc., a company that specializes in seminars and home-study courses. Mr. Bradford has owned and operated publishing businesses for more than 25 years.

Mr. Bradford’s business career started with the international accounting firm of Price Waterhouse (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers) where he spent nine years in various management positions, including the last four of which were on a highly prestigious tour of duty in the National Office in Washington, D.C. This is where he gained his first exposure to the information publishing business. He is the author of several books, has appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs and has been quoted in many national newspapers.

 

Robert Brady

Founder, Business and Legal Resources (BLR)

Bob founded Business & Legal Reports (BLR) in 1977. In 2011, that company merged with M. Lee Smith Publishers to become the “new” BLR. After working as CEO and Editor in Chief for 34 years, he now serves as a director and consultant on special projects. Bob came to publishing by way of the University of Notre Dame, where he was managing editor of the student newspaper, The Observer. After college, Bob worked for the Bureau of Business Practice and Institute for Management, both newsletter publishers. He founded BLR during his final year of law school at the University of Connecticut. Bob is a board member and Vice President of the Specialized Information Publishers Association (SIPA). He is a long-time member of the board of the Valley Shore YMCA, Westbrook, CT.

Nancy Brand

Director of Operations, Chartwell

Nancy Brand is the director of operations at Chartwell Inc. and is responsible for managing organizational processes, IT, marketing and conference production. In this role, she implemented a cross-departmental integration of Salesforce.com and created a multi-channel renewal strategy targeting electric and gas utilities. Over the past six years, Nancy has developed IT, account management, training and social media processes and policies to support the company’s evolving business strategy. She has overseen the transition from software to cloud-based solutions as well as developed multiple websites.

Nancy graduated with high honors from Georgia Tech with a degree in Management and earned her MBA focusing on data analysis and marketing from Georgia State University.

 

Torry Burdick

Torry Burdick is vice president of product marketing, for Vantage Production, LLC, a UCG company, headquartered in Holmdel, NJ. In her role, Ms. Burdick, leads the strategy and execution for the company’s portfolio of innovative marketing solutions including marketing automation, content marketing and mobile-ready websites.

Prior to joining Vantage Production, LLC, Ms. Burdick held positions at market-leading information providers; including, Phillips Business Information, ElementK, Infocom Group, MediaLive and Lebhar-Friedman. Her roles involved publishing management, sales and marketing management, database marketing, new product development, and editorial oversight. Ms. Burdick holds a B.A. in advertising from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI.

Cynthia Carter

President, FDAnews

Cindy Carter is president and CEO of FDAnews, an information company serving the pharmaceutical, medical device and clinical trial communities. She also is a partner and past president of Healthcare Intelligence Network, a joint venture of several healthcare publishers.

She was formerly the vice president and publisher at FT Energy, a division of the Financial Times and vice president and group publisher at Capitol Publications. During her 19 years at Capitol, she was also a new product developer, executive editor and reporter. Before that, she was an editor at Government Information Services.

She has served on the Specialized Information Publishers Association’s board of directors and is the incoming president of the Specialized Information Publishers Association’s Foundation.

Guy Cecala

CEO, Inside Mortgage Finance

Guy D. Cecala is the CEO and publisher of Inside Mortgage Finance, a specialized news and information company in Bethesda, MD that he founded in 1984. The company produces eight newsletters, numerous special reports, several databases, and a large amount of original research and statistics related to mortgage finance in the United States.

Mr. Cecala is frequently quoted in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, USA Today and other major newspapers as well as AP, Bloomberg and Reuters. He also has appeared on the NBC Today Show, NBC Nightly News, CNBC, ABC News, CBS Evening News, Fox Business News, PBS NewsHour, CNN, the BBC, CBS Radio and NPR as an expert on the U.S. mortgage market.

Mr. Cecala earned a B.A. degree in English from Boston College, where he graduated magna cum laude. He also holds a M.A. degree in journalism from the University of Maryland.

Mr. Cecala also is a past president of the Specialized Information Publishers Association, an international trade group based in Vienna, VA, and continues to serve on the association’s board of directors. He also served on the board of directors of the Software and Information Industry Association.

Jim Cowart

He is the Director of Audience Development for Meister Media Worldwide, where he oversees audience development processes and data services for 10 brands and 10 single sales products in the horticulture, ornamental and crop sciences markets. During the past six months, he led his team’s consolidation of multiple channel, circulation and email marketing databases into one unified database at Knowledge Marketing.

Prior to joining Meister Media Worldwide, he has worked for Penton Media on 30 different brands in several markets, and he has also held several auditing or management positions for the not-for-profit media auditing firm BPA Worldwide. His exposure to different databases and circulation processes during the past 15 years provides him and his team the insight into alternative ways to manage their data as a full service multimedia operation.

Previously, Guy was the chief executive officer of Institutional Investor News, a publisher of financial services databases and newsletters. Before that he was the

senior vice president and general manager of the list and media services divisions for MSGi Direct, providing direct-response list management and brokerage services, media planning and

buying, and magazine advertising sales representation. Prior to that, Guy served as the vice president of marketing for Oxmoor House (a subsidiary of Time Warner, Inc.), a consumer publishing imprint and direct-response marketer.

Brian Crotty

Brian's publishing background stretches back more than 27 years during which he has created and managed a variety of information products, including newsletters, magazines, databases, software, and conferences. Before assuming the role of CEO at OPIS, Brian was a vice president at Hart Publications, a magazine, directory and newsletter subsidiary of Phillips Publishing International. He has a master's degree in journalism from American University. He is currently serving his second term on the Board of Directors of the Specialized Information Publishers Association (he served as a Board member from 2000-2005 and 2009-present), and has won two awards for journalism excellence from that association.

Christine Durman

Christine is a partner at Abbey Road Associates, a strategy and pricing consultancy serving the information services industry.
She has been leading assignments for many B2B information services and technology companies, with particular focus on customer decision processes and price segmentation, and their impact on price strategy. Many of her recent assignments have dealt with online migration, content packaging and the monetization of online content.
Prior to joining Abbey Road Associates, Christine has held several senior-level positions in publishing and information services. Christine is the former SVP Strategy at Thomson Scientific/Healthcare and Reference, and SVP and General Manager at Lexis-Nexis. Prior to that, she held senior strategy and general management roles in a variety of service-oriented software and data companies.
Christine is a UK-qualified lawyer and has a LLM degree in Law and Economics from the University of Bristol, UK. She also completed Advanced Executive training at the Institute of Directors, Pall Mall, London & Templeton College, Oxford.

 

Bobby Edgil

Director of Sales, BLR

Bobby Edgil is Vice President of Sales and Business Alliance for BLR. In this role he charts the course for the company’s outbound sales efforts, while seeking opportunities for strategic partnerships.Previously he served in sales management, director, and general manager roles in the imaging and software industry where he was a winner of multiple top awards.

His past accomplishments include being an 8-time winner of the President’s Club Award as a Major Account Representative and as a Sales Manager. Bobby has been instrumental in starting two sales forces in new start-up companies, as well as playing significant roles in merging and acquiring nine other companies while leading the sales efforts. Away from work he is very engaged with family and enjoys outdoor sports and is also active in the community.

Currently he is working with Habitat for Humanity, Second Harvest, and our in-house charitable committee at BLR.

Denise Elliott

Denise Elliott is the vice president of sales and marketing at The Kiplinger Washington Editors, Inc., where she is responsible for the circulation/sales efforts for five newsletters with a combined circulation of more than 275,000 and one consumer magazine with more than 600,000 subscribers. Founded in 1920 by W.M. Kiplinger, the company developed one of the nation’s first successful newsletters in modern times. The Kiplinger Letter, launched in 1923, remains the longest continually published newsletter in the U.S. At Kiplinger, Denise is also responsible for production, fulfillment and IT. She was previously president of Briefings Publishing Group, a newsletter publishing company in Alexandria, VA. Prior to Briefings, Denise was marketing vice president at Washington Business Information, Inc. In her nine years there she held many positions in the marketing and new product development department.

Denise is president of the SIPA board of directors, Treasurer of the Software & Information Industry Association board of Directors, board member at CSPI, publishers of Nutrition Action newsletter and past president of the DC Chapter of SIPA.

Heather Farley

Heather leads the strategic direction and revenue growth objectives across AI. She works closely with her division leaders to identify, acquire and integrate synergistic businesses as well as create strong organic growth through new product launches. Additionally, as a member of Access Intelligence’s Board of Directors, Heather plays an integral role in ensuring that the vision and mission of AI’s core strategic initiatives are successfully executed across all operating units. Heather is a recognized leader in the b2b community and a member of the SIPA Board of Directors. In her tenure at AI, Heather has worked on more than two dozen acquisitions and countless product launches. Her expertise in both direct marketing and paid content have been instrumental in the company’s dynamic transition from a traditional b2b media provider to an integrated global media company comprised primarily of face-to-face events and online members-based communities. Prior to Access Intelligence, Heather was a senior vice president and group publisher with Phillips Publishing International, where she began her publishing career in 1988.

David Foster

CEO, Business Valuation Resources

David Foster is the CEO of Business Valuation Resources, the Portland, OR-based publisher of transaction, legal and other databases for the business valuation profession. Much of BVR's recent growth results from the reinvention of sales, marketing, product development, technology, editorial, pricing, and every other part of operations—changes BVR shares with many SIIA members.

In addition to BVR, Foster was the co-founder of IOMA, Inc., a management publisher he sold to the Bureau of National Affairs in 1998. He has served on the Boards of 14 information industry companies, as well Copyright Clearance Center. He speaks on management and financial trends in the information industry, and he won SIPA’s Hall of Fame Award 2000.

Adam Goldstein

ADAM P. GOLDSTEIN is the publisher of Business Management Daily, a division of capitol Information Group, in Falls Church, VA. This is his second go-round with the company, having served as their marketing director in an earlier millennium. Business Management Daily produces newsletters, e-letters, books, reports, CDs, DVDs, membership websites, and over 200 webinars annually in the areas of human resources, leadership, office administration, office technology, and management. Adam has held marketing and publishing positions at Telecommunications Reports, Food Chemical News, Eli Research, and two stints at Business Publishers – his second as publisher and majority owner from 2005 to 2006. He also spent seven years as principal of MarketSmart (a marketing consultancy), and as the owner of a small company publishing energy and environmental newsletters. Adam is the former president of the D.C. chapter of SIPA. His articles have appeared in industry publications, and he has spoken at regional and national conferences. He’s really not as big a jerk as he seems once you get to know him.

Helmut Graf

CEO, VNR Verlag fur die Deutsche Wirtschaft AG

Helmut Graf is chief executive officer of VNR Verlag für die Deutsche Wirtschaft AG (VNR Publishing House for the German Business World), a member of the Rentrop Publishing Group, Germany.

Shortly after joining VNR in 1989 Helmut Graf set up publishing activities in Switzerland and Austria, then went on to form joint ventures with publishing houses in Poland and Romania. He successfully negotiated with the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN to introduce the Mayo Clinic Health Letter into the German market, and he was responsible for a joint project with Agora, Inc., Baltimore, MD, that brought newsletters like Taipan and Oxford Club onto the German market.

In 1998 Helmut Graf became senior executive of the entire VNR Verlag für die Deutsche Wirtschaft, a group that today encompasses ten specialized publishing houses. Together with its sister company FID Publishing House Inc., VNR publishes 293 print newsletters, loose-leaf services and electronic publications. The company is one of the Top Ten German publishing houses for business and the economy.

In 2005 the Deutsche Direktmarketing Verband e.V. (German Direct Marketing Association, DDV) honored Helmut Graf’s outstanding contribution to developing the direct marketing sector by admitting him to the “Direct Marketing Hall of Fame“.

Helmut Graf is a member of the Board of Directors of the Specialized Information Publishers Association SIPA, Washington. At the annual meeting in June 2009, he was honored by being taken into the SIPA Association’s Hall of Fame, where he is listed among the 27 “giants of the industry”. He is the first European member to receive this accolade.

 

Jodi Grizzel

Operations Director, FDAnews

Jodi Grizzel is the Operations Director at FDAnews where she oversees customer service, fulfillment, production, website development, and email list management. Jodi joined the company also known as Washington Business Information, Inc. as a Marketing Assistant 19 years ago and has held various jobs over the years, such as Circulation Manager and Associate Publisher, before becoming the Operations Director. She holds a degree in marketing from East Carolina University and an MBA from George Mason University. Jodi lives in Falls Church, VA with her husband Jeff (who is the Conference Director at FDAnews) and their 3 children.

Lexie Gross

Lexie Gross is the Vice President of Sales at Business Valuation Resources (BVR), a specialized publishing company servicing the business valuation and related professions. Her areas of focus include sales force recruitment, sales process development, and performance management. Prior to joining BVR, Lexie held leadership positions where she helped clients incorporate into their technology platforms open source and proprietary software solutions, social media technologies, and mass communication strategies. Lexie holds an M.A. in Political Communication from Emerson College and an A.B. in History and German Studies from Mount Holyoke College. She lives in Boston.

Luis Hernandez

Vice President, Specialized Information Publishers Association

Luis A. Hernandez is the Vice President of the Specialized Information Publishers Association (SIPA). In this role, he represents the concerns of niche publishers in the US and Europe who developed this association to help each other improve their financial performance and boost profits. Luis understands these issues first hand, as previously he was the Director of Publishing for Thompson Publishing Group (TPG) and held that position since January 2009. Luis was responsible for all editorial and production activities, and for developing new products. Previous to this position, he was a Managing Editor responsible for overseeing the editors in the Environmental and FDA libraries at TPG. Luis began his career at TPG as a reporter and editor for regulatory compliance guides and newsletters covering investment advisers and hedge funds, as well as several environmental subject areas. Luis has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas and a Master’s Degree in English from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

Laurie Hofmann

Laurie Hofmann is the Director of Market Development at Access Intelligence, LLC, where she is responsible for generating online and print subscription revenue for AI’s cable and media industry publications and services. Ryan is the Co-Founder and Chief Revenue Officer at Industry Dive, a mobile-first B2B digital media company. Industry Dive drives revenue by connecting advertisers with it's readers through branding, lead generation, and content marketing campaigns. Ryan is responsible for the revenue side of the business, including product development and business strategy. Prior to co-founding Industry Dive, Ryan was VP of Sales at FierceMarkets where he doubled annual revenue in his 3 years on the job.

Jim Zielinski currently is the founder and CEO of Zielinski Financial Advisors, LLC, a consulting company that provides advice on financial and strategic matters to media and information businesses. He founded this firm after the sale in 2005 of Hanley Wood, LLC, where he was Chief Financial Officer of this business to business information company headquartered in Washington, DC. Jim joined Hanley Wood in 1997 when it was a $50 million revenue company and helped guide its growth to over $235 million in revenue by 2005 through a series of new product launches, acquisitions, and capital raises. Jim handled the first sale of Hanley Wood to private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson in 1999, and then helped sell Hanley Wood again in 2005 to JP Morgan Capital Partners.

Before becoming Chief Financial Officer for Hanley Wood, LLC in 1997, Jim had a long career in investment banking and commercial banking with Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A. and Bankers Trust Company. He built a banking business for Bankers Trust in Atlanta during the 1980s, growing market presence and profits from a start up stage in 1983 to over $20 million in profits with a staff of 40 professionals by 1989. He has been involved in many acquisition financings, helping companies achieve their growth objectives.

In 1989 Jim returned to Bankers Trust in New York, making equity investments and mezzanine financings available to growth companies, and also assisting companies with ownership transition as owner entrepreneurs moved to other activities or elected to retire.

Jim Zielinski is a graduate of The Ohio State University and has an MBA from Columbia University. He is active in fundraising for various not for profit institutions.

He is on the boards of directors of Virgo Publishing and CSP Business Media.
