Burt previously worked as a journalist at The Associated Press. In his dozen years there, he served as Korea bureau chief, founded a bureau covering the five countries of former Soviet Central Asia and reported on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, among other assignments worldwide. Burt was a 2008-9 Knight journalism fellow at Stanford University, where he also received a bachelor’s degree with honors in political science and master’s degree in Russian and Eastern European studies.

The gathering (http://www.allthingsd.com/d) is considered one of the leading conferences focused on the convergence of tech and media industries.

She and Mossberg are also the co-executive editors of a tech and media Web site, AllThingsD.com (www.allthingsd.com), where her online-only version of the “BoomTown” column appears.

Kara Swisher worked in The Wall Street Journal’s San Francisco bureau. For many years, she wrote the column, “BoomTown,” which appeared on the front page of the Marketplace section and also on The Wall Street Journal Online at WSJ.com. Previously, Ms. Swisher covered breaking news about the Web’s major players and Internet policy issues and also wrote feature articles on technology for the paper. She has also written a weekly column for the Personal Journal on home issues called “Home Economics.”

Previously, Ms. Swisher worked as a reporter at the Washington Post and as an editor at the City Paper of Washington, D.C. She received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and her graduate degree at Columbia University’s School of Journalism.

Dan Bennett

Dan Bennett is technology leader within the mobile technology division of Thomson Reuters. In this role, Dan provides internal consultancy services alongside responsibility for investment and development in shared mobile product platforms.

The first such platform, ProView – the Thomson Reuters eBook platform – launched in the Canadian legal market in October 2011 and is now being rolled out globally. Dan has worked in a number of technology/product leadership roles since joining the Thomson Consulting business in 1997. Most recently, he led online development for WestlawNext, directing development from initial architecture and sizing through the groundbreaking launch of the new research service in February 2010.

A native of the UK, Dan is based out of the Thomson Reuters Eagan, MN campus and holds a BSc in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Leeds, UK.

Jim Brady is the Editor-in-Chief of Digital First Media -- which operates the Journal Register Company and MediaNews Group -- and oversees the editorial strategy and operations of its 75 daily newspapers, 292 non-daily publications and 341 online sites.

Before joining DFM, Brady served as general manager of TBD, a local startup that combined the values of traditional journalism and the power of citizen journalism. Brady joined TBD after more than four years as executive editor of washingtonpost.com, where he led the site to numerous awards and accolades. Brady was also part of washingtonpost.com’s launch team in 1996, and served in various roles there from 1995 to 1999.

In between his stints at washingtonpost.com, Brady spent more than four years at America Online, serving as Group Programming Director, News & Sports; Executive Director, Editorial Operations; and Vice President, Production & Operations. During his time at AOL, Brady was in charge of the service’s coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the 2000 presidential election.

 

Anthony Capon

From setting the strategic direction of content licensing and acquisition, and then from the moment contractual negotiations begin with a new publication through to it’s regular timely appearance complete with accurate application of Dow Jones Intelligent Indexing™ on products. Mr. Capon ensures the data quality for all products including Factiva.com, Companies and Executives, Watchlist, Sanction Alert, Anti Corruption, Communicator, Media Relations Manager and Insight.
Mr. Capon has been with Dow Jones twenty five years from October 1986 starting as an Abstractor/Indexer in London. In February of 2010, he was promoted to his current position.
Mr. Capon began his career with Finsbury Data Services (FDS) after earning a degree in Economics at Manchester University. FDS was acquired by Reuters in 1988 and Mr. Capon was part of the team responsible for adding the near real-time Reuters Newswires to Reuters Business Briefing (RBB). Following two spells in Singapore where he established the Chinese and Japanese-language operations for RBB he returned to London in 1998 as Manager, Global Content Operations. With the formation of Factiva in 1999 Mr. Capon was appointed Manager of the combined ex-RBB and ex-Dow Jones Interactive Content Management teams and moved to the US in 2001. The focus of the new role was to migrate the previous two products’ archives to a new format and XML-based platform and at the same build a new set of editorial tools to facilitate the content management processes. Both projects were completed successfully and at the same time the groups were reorganized into a ‘follow-the-sun’ operational model.
He lives in Princeton, NJ, with his wife and two children.

Prior to Edelman, he was a co-founder and CEO at Cerado, which was founded in 2002 to provide software and services that enable businesses, organizations and associations to better connect and understand their customer and member communities. His blog, The Social Customer Manifesto, is a “Top 25″ marketing blog, and has won numerous other awards including “Top CRM Blog” in 2005, 2007 and 2008. He is also an active contributor to ProjectVRM, based at the Berkman Center at Harvard University, which focuses on improving customer-vendor relationships and is creating tools to equip individuals with tools of both independence and engagement. Prior to co-founding Cerado, Chris was a product marketing executive at Extricity, a provider of B2B integration services. He also spent nearly a decade at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) as a manager at Andersen’s Center for Strategic Technology in Palo Alto, California. Gerry Grenier is currently Staff Director of Publishing Technologies for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in Piscataway, New Jersey. He leads an electronic publishing team at the IEEE responsible for the technologies that are used to create and distribute content including development and operation of IEEE Xplore -- a digital library containing 3.0 million journal articles, conference papers, and standards in electrical engineering and computer science.

Prior to joining the IEEE Gerry was Director of Publishing Technologies at John Wiley & Sons, serving as a key member of the team that developed Wiley Interscience.

He is on the Boards of CrossRef and the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE Computer Society.

Eric Johnston

With more than 20 years of experience across a variety of publishing disciplines, Eric Johnston brings a unique perspective and passion to the newspaper industry. With experience at community newspapers across the country, his experience includes photojournalist, designer, information technology specialist, classified advertising manager and interactive media business developer.

He has been involved in a number of industry-changing initiatives, including the introduction of digital photography into the newspaper production environment and the development, integration and maturation of online business models.

Johnston, an Eagle Scout, was born in Modesto and currently serves on the boards of the Central Valley Professional Exchange, the Education Foundation of Stanislaus County, The Gallo Center for the Arts and the Stanislaus Community Foundation. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the California Newspaper Publisher’s Association.

A graduate of California State University, Fresno, Johnston holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, is married and lives in Modesto with his wife Susan. They have two daughters: Brittany, currently serving in the US Navy and Morgan, a student at California State University, Chico.

Peter Marney

Peter Marney is a Senior Vice President at Thomson Reuters, the world's leading source of intelligent information to businesses and professionals. Peter leads the team that defines and implements the company's information architecture strategy known as Content Marketplace. It is Thomson Reuters' approach to federated master data management built on a uniform set of policies, a common language of content and a standardized set of interfaces. The Marketplace enables otherwise disparate databases, both internal and external to Thomson Reuters, to distribute interoperable and easily commingled information.
Peter is also active in the information services industry. In addition to public speaking engagements, he serves on the Content Board of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA). In 2011, Peter was selected by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the independent agency of the US government that regulates futures and options markets, to serve on its Subcommittee on Data Standardization, part of the CFTC's Technology Advisory Committee. Peter also sits on the board of directors of Thomson Reuters Global Resources, the entity that owns Thomson Reuters' intellectual property and he is also a director of Israel-based ClearForest, a Thomson Reuters subsidiary.
Peter has held many senior positions during his 20 plus year career at Thomson Reuters and has principally focused on products and services directed at the investment banking community. Peter received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Franklin and Marshall College, and is a proud member of the Executive Board of the Global Abilities Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to increase cultural understanding and provide resources to help persons with spinal cord injuries become independent, productive members of society around the globe.

His most recent post was as General Manager of the Wolters Kluwer company, CT Summation Solutions, which provides software and Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions supporting enterprise content management, e-Discovery and litigation for Law Firms, Corporations and Government. During his four-year tenure, Tom drove the company strategy, and delivered to the market a suite of products that garnered numerous industry awards and high customer satisfaction.

Prior to Summation, Tom was a client partner in Cognizant Technology Solutions, and before that president of Cyntergy, a professional services company providing consulting and call center solutions for global hospitality and food service companies. For five years, Tom was CEO of the Cedar Group, responsible for the North American strategy and execution for that company; subsequently he led Cedar's world wide consulting practice with particular successes in higher education and government sectors.

Tom began his career with IBM, rising to Chief Officer for finance, planning, and administration of an IBM unit responsible for sales and marketing for the Mid-Atlantic region of the US. While at IBM, Tom received numerous awards and promotions.

Fred Silverman

Marc holds an M.S. degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Tennessee, and a B.S. in Sociology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He serves on the board of Forte Research Systems and has served on the SIIA Content Board.
