Rob CoxRob Cox
US Editor and Director, breakingviews.com

Rob Cox is the US Editor and a director of breakingviews.com. After helping found the commentary service in 2000, he moved to New York to spearhead its expansion in the United States, where the firm now employs nine commentators, including two in Washington and San Francisco. Rob edits the breakingviews columns that appear in the New York Times each business day and regularly in Fortune magazine, and is a regular contributor on CNBC. Last year, he was the recipient of an International M&A Media Award for his coverage of Microsoft’s bid for Yahoo. His work has appeared in many publications in the United States, including the New York Times, New York magazine, Fortune, Esquire, Barron’s and the Wall Street Journal, and abroad.

Rob joined as a founding editor of breakingviews from Bloomberg News in London, where he oversaw European finance coverage. As South Europe bureau chief, he led Bloomberg’s editorial operations in Milan, Rome, Athens, Istanbul, Lisbon and Madrid from 1995 until 1998. Before coming to Europe, Rob covered Wall Street and banking and the stock market for Bloomberg and for American Banker. He is a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and the University of Vermont, an avid skier, novice snowboarder, amateur ice hockey player and the father of two boys.

Jon RobsonJon Robson

Jon Robson is President of Enterprise for the Markets Division of Thomson Reuters. Enterprise targets the business, rather than the end-user, as a customer. In this role, Mr. Robson has responsibility for Enterprise Information, Pricing and Reference Data, Digital Data Feeds, Information Management Solutions, Middleware Technology and Trade and Risk Management Solutions.

Mr. Robson previously led Reuters business in the United States, South America and Canada, in his role as President, Reuters America.  He was also Head of Reuters Focus Group Accounts program, taking global responsibility for Reuters business with our largest worldwide clients.

During this time Mr. Robson steered the Americas to its most significant period of profitable growth, and delivered substantially improved margins for the business across the region.   Mr. Robson also transformed the global Focus Group Accounts program, delivering strong double digit revenue growth each year, and creating innovative value-generating partnerships with our largest clients.

Before joining Reuters, Mr. Robson managed financial technology businesses for BIS Banking Systems (now Misys) in Europe and Asia, Telerate in Asia Pacific and became EVP for Dow Jones Markets based in New York. In 1997 he became a Non Executive Director of ICAP plc, and also founded financial services firm MoneyLine, specializing in electronic Fixed Income transaction systems, analytics,  real time internet messaging and financial content delivery.  As CEO and President, he led the acquisition of global market data provider Telerate in 2001 to form MoneyLine Telerate, which was subsequently acquired by Reuters.
Mr. Robson is married with two children and is based in London.

Carl Abrams, PhD
Financial Services Sector Business Executive, IBM Research

Dr. Abrams is the Financial Services Sector Business Executive for the IBM Research Division. He received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Connecticut, his Masters in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology and his Doctorate in Computing from Pace University. Dr. Abrams began his career as a chemist working for Lederle Laboratories. Between 1977 and 1992 he worked for Chase Manhattan Bank. He held the positions of Division Executive(CIO) for the Trading and Treasury department and the International Individual Bank. From 1992 to 1997 he was the Director of Applications Development for Swiss Bank in New York. In 1997, he joined PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting (then Coopers&Lybrand) in the Financial Services/Capital Markets practice where he specialized in program management. In January of 2003, Dr. Abrams assumed his current position as Financial Serivces Sector Business Executive within IBM Research.


Mark AkassMark Akass
CTO – Global Banking & Financial Markets, BT

Mark Akass is Chief Technology Officer for the Global Banking and Financial Markets division in BT. In this role Akass is at the centre of the company's mission to be the leading provider of networked-based services to the financial services sector globally.  Akass joined BT when Radianz was acquired in 2005. After a period working on key infrastructure projects Akass became CTO and VP for BT’s global financial services portfolio. This covered the award winning Radianz and Trading Systems capabilities.  Akass joined Radianz when it was formed in 2000 and held the position of VP Engineering. He was responsible for building the company’s global network and product platform, the Radianz shared market infrastructure, and complex client projects.  Previously, Akass set up and ran the global pre-sales organisation at Equant, now a division of Orange Business Services, where he was also a founding management team member. At Equant, Akass held other senior executive roles and was responsible for customer service and global change programs.
His career began in infrastructure development for BT but he moved on to develop his finance industry expertise at the London Stock Exchange as Manager of Network Development. Akass earned a first class honours degree in electronics and communications engineering in 1983. He is a chartered engineer and a fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Akass lives with his family near London.


Oliver AlbersOliver Albers

Oliver Albers is Head of Global Sales and Account Management for NASDAQ OMX Global Data Products. The Global Data Products team is focused on creating innovative real-time and historical data products that provide unsurpassed market transparency to institutional, retail and individual investors. Mr. Albers and his team are responsible for providing value-added consultative services to all NASDAQ OMX market data vendors and for managing relationships with data subscribers. Prior to this role, Mr. Albers held other sales and product management positions at NASDAQ OMX and was instrumental in the launch and implementation of many new products including the NASDAQ Closing Cross, NASDAQ TotalView, Velocity and Forces, Market Pathfinders, Market Replay and ModelView. Mr. Albers holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from Ohio University and a Masters in Business Administration from The George Washington University.


Sara BanjereeSara Banjeree
Senior VP Data Procurement & Strategic Initiatives, SIX Telekurs USA Inc

Sara Banerjee is Senior Vice President of Data Procurement and Strategic Initiatives at SIX Telekurs USA Inc, the American subsidiary of SIX Telekurs.  Sara joined SIX Telekurs in Stamford, CT in 1989, and has held various positions with the company since then. 

In her current position, she is responsible for managing the firm’s data procurement activities throughout North and South America.  In this role, she manages the acquisition and implementation of pricing and reference data from dozens of exchanges and third party contributors.  Sara is additionally responsible for strategic initiatives within the region.

Sara is actively involved with various industry initiatives, and works with such groups as the X9D (ANSI Standards) committee, ISO standards working groups (WG 6 and WG 2).  She also serves as co-chair of the vendor committee for the International Securities Association for Institutional Trade (ISITC) and is active in various divisions of the Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (SFMA).

In addition to her other industry activities, Sara has served in a number of leadership roles with the Financial Information Industry Services Division of the SIIA (FISD).  She has served on several FISD committees since joining the group in 1994, and was elected chair of the Executive Committee in 2001, 2002 and 2006, and vice-chair in 2005, 2007 and 2008. She currently serves as vice-chair of the Executive Committee and co-chair of the biennial World Financial Information Conference. 

Sara was born in Hyderabad, India, where she earned a master’s degree in organizational behavior from Osmania University.  After moving to the United States, she earned another masters in human resource management from University of Bridgeport, CT.


Michael BergmeijerMichael Bergmeijer

Michael Bergmeijer was appointed Commercial Director in March 2009, with global responsibility for the growth of Breakingviews’ subscription, syndication and advertising businesses. Prior to joining Breakingviews, Michael spent more than 25 years with Dow Jones and Company in various editorial and business roles in the US, Europe and Asia. Most recently he was Managing Director of the Dow Jones Consumer Media Group in Europe, Middle East and Africa, which includes The Wall Street Journal Europe and Financial News, and prior to that he was the editor and managing director of Dow Jones Newswires in Europe and Asia. A Dutch national, he has earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the University of Amsterdam. In addition, he was a Fulbright Scholar at Smith College in Northhampton, Mass., and earned a master's degree from the Johns Hopkins School of International Studies in Bologna, Italy.


David Berry

In December 2008, David Berry joined UBS in the Market Data Global Sourcing department He was Head of Procurement and Cost Control Royal Bank of Canada Capital Markets Europe from May to Nov 2008. From 2006 to 2008 he was Global Head of Market Data at Barclays Capital, the Investment Banking arm of Barclays Bank PLC. From 2001 to 2006 he worked for SGCIB, the Corporate & Investment Banking arm of Société Générale Group. He first worked as Head of Supplier Management for Market Data Services and held a number of managerial positions within SGCIB’s Information Technology department. He was appointed Global Head of Market Data Commercial in 2004. From 1993 to 2001, David worked for Morgan Stanley, first in the Fixed Income, Commodities and Foreign Exchange department, where he held Sales and Trading posts in Frankfurt and Paris. Later, he worked in their Market Data and Technology department in London. He is Vice-President of COSSIOM in charge of relations with IPUG, Member of the Executive Committee at IPUG and Co-Chair of the Consumer Constituent Group at FISD. A French national, David was educated in Germany where he holds a “Diplomkaufman.” He also earned a “Diplome des Grandes Ecoles” degree in Paris. Married with three children, David is a keen rugby and ice-hockey player.

Werner BürkiWerner Bürki

Werner Bürki has been a member of the Management Board of the SIX Swiss Exchange since July 2002 and, since October 2001, has held the position of CEO of SIX Exfeed Ltd, a company he established as a European provider of raw financial data. He has also been a member of the STOXX Supervisory Board since December 2002 and its Chairman since April 2006. He started his career in 1992 as a sales manager with Dow Jones Markets Switzerland AG. By 2001, he had become a member of that company's Executive Committee and Board of Directors, whereas in June 1998 he assumed the position of General Manager Switzerland for Bridge Information Systems. Werner Bürki graduated from business school in Zurich. Earlier in his career, he was a specialist in the field of options and futures trading, and in 1987 completed additional specialized studies at the New York Institute of Finance.

Until August 2006, Philippe Carré was running Client Services, Marketing & Communication for GL TRADE London/Northern Europe. As Global Head of Client Services, he also was responsible for the development, coordination and efficiency of all client-facing staff worldwide. He joined GL TRADE in 1997, at the opening of the London office. Prior to joining, he worked for Euronext in Paris and CERG Finance in Belgium. In February 2009 he was elected President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee

Michael Connor is Market News International’s Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for managing the production, delivery and sales of MNI's news and analysis products. Prior to joining MNI, Mr. Connor was the Manager of Planning and Development for the Corporate Bond Department of Moody's Investor Service. Ludwig D’Angelo is the North American Regional Head of Trading Technology for JP Morgan. He has over 27 years of experience in financial services including front office, risk management, operations, technology and marketing. He has previously held senior positions at Swiss Bank Corp, Bankers Trust, Reuters as well as KPMG Consulting and CAPCO where he was a practice leader in trading technology. Tom works closely with FISD members to identify major issues and seek opportunities to bring the financial information industry together to discuss and resolve those issues. Tristan DehaanTristan Dehaan

Tristan Dehaan has worked for the dutch asset manager company Robeco since 2001. Originally located in the mid office where he was responsible for managing the outsourced service providers, from 2007 he now leads the market data group for Robeco and is responsible for the strategic planning, contract management including procurement and is the main point of contact internally and externally for market data. Recent activities include contract centralisation with Robeco owned companies from various locations across the globe and in another project commanding an internal cost cutting exercise which included extensive interviewing of the business. In addition, Tristan takes active involvement with various industry groups and recently helped set up a dutch consumer peer group, was heavily involved in re-establishing the company synergy group with Robeco's mother company Rabobank and last but not least, FISD where he plunged into the WFIC programme committee and the FISD sponsored industry certification project. With more than 20 years in the Financial Industry covering Back & Mid office operations he still today has the same commitment and passion for the business and values building relationships and the power of information exchange.

Lou Eccleston is executive managing director at Standard & Poor’s, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc., and the leading provider of objective financial information, ratings and risk analysis to the global financial community. In this capacity, he holds a dual role as head of Global Sales and Client Service as well as Fixed Income and Risk Management Services, which provides Standard & Poor’s research, data and analytics in the fixed income market to global financial professionals. Prior to joining Standard & Poor’s in 2008, Lou was chairman and chief executive officer of Pivot Inc., a leading provider of communications networks for institutional investors. Previously, he served as president of Global Sales, Marketing and Services for Thomson Financial, leading the integration of separate sales, service and marketing operations around the world into one globally coordinated entity. Lou was also president of the Banking and Brokerage division for Thomson Financial, their largest business operating group at the time, where he led the development and launch of Thomson ONE. Lou also spent 14 years as a managing director with Bloomberg L.P., where he helped build sales and customer service initiatives for the desktop, trading systems, the electronic brokerage business and media operations. Lou holds a B.A. in Economics from Drew University and an M.B.A. in Finance from La Salle University.


Steve Ellenberg
VP, Global Index Licensing Coordinator, Credit Suisse

Steve Ellenberg joined Credit Suisse’s Supply Management Division as a consultant in Oct 2005 to negotiate market data license Agreements, with a focus on reference data deals. Beginning Jan 2007, Steve’s primary focus shifted towards the global coordination and centralization of index licensing for Credit Suisse, where Steve has measurably reduced the overall index licensing spend through implementing both strategic license usage monitoring processes, and intelligent index licensing practices.Previous to Credit Suisse, Steve was a Vice President of Vendor Management at Citigroup Asset Management, until their acquisition in August 2005 by Legg, Mason. In 2004 Steve consulted to the Vendor Management Team at Lehman Brothers. Steve was also a key member of the Vendor Management team at Morgan Stanley from 1997 through 2003, and prior was a member of the Fixed Income Trading Technology Team at First Boston. He has also held positions in Business Development at Tudor Software, LLC, and in Client Services at Telekurs (NA), Indepth Data, Inc., and Integrated Analytics (now ITG).

Jamie Farmer
Senior Director, Global Index Operations/Head of Exchange Relationships, Dow Jones Indexes

Jamie Farmer is senior director of global index operations and head of exchange relationships of Dow Jones Indexes. He oversees the creation, development and maintenance of new indexes and ensures the alignment of strategic objectives and activities across the business unit. He also is responsible for maintaining relationships with stock, futures and options exchanges in the Americas region. Mr. Farmer oversees business development for the Dow Jones Energy Indexes.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Farmer was a senior associate of strategic relationships at Susquehanna International Group, LLP, a global institutional sales, research and market-making firm based in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., from 1999-2006. There his primary focus was on the development of new products such as cash-settled index options and exchange-traded funds. He also handled marketing, equity research and business development at SIG. In 1991 Mr. Farmer began his career as vice president of marketing at the Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX), where he successfully positioned PHLX’s sector indexes, index-linked products and trading products. Mr. Farmer holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Edmund (Ed) Flynn is Senior Director of Market Data Services at Fidelity Investments and is responsible for the strategic sourcing of market data services across the enterprise and to its customers. Fernando Garrido
Head of Public Debt Operations, Brazilian National Treasury

Fernando Garrido is the head of the Public Debt Operations Department of the Brazilian National Treasury. Fernando has joined the Brazilian Treasury in 1996, and has held several different positions in the institution since then, both in the domestic and external debt desks, and also as manager of the short term debt issuance planning area. Before joining the Treasury, he worked at a Rio de Janeiro-based investment bank. Fernando has also served as an IMF consultant for public debt issues and secondary market development. The Brazilian National Treasury, besides being a heavy user of financial information, has played an important role in stimulating the development of electronic trading systems in Brazil through imposing to the primary dealers obligations in regard of the use of electronic trading platforms.


Meredith GibsonMeredith Gibson
Senior Vice President and Counsel - IP and O&T Law Group, Citi

Meredith Gibson is a Senior Vice President and Counsel in the IP and O&T Law Group in EMEA for Citi. Meredith joined Citi in 2005. Her role includes responsibility for a wide range of intellectual property, information technology, electronic trading and order routing, and commercial data issues including both market data and reference data. Previously Meredith worked at HSBC and for a number of years in private practice at Clifford Chance, Coudert Brothers and Linklaters. Meredith trained and qualified at Malleson Stephen Jaques in Australia. Meredith has an MA from St Andrews University, an LLB from the University of Melbourne and an LLM from Queen Mary College, University of London. She also holds a diploma in Information and Library Studies from Robert Gordon University. Meredith currently chairs the Banking Legal Technology Group for Citi and is Deputy Chair of the LIBA Market Data Working Party.


Ottavio GislerOttavio Gisler

Ottavio Gisler joined SIX Swiss Exchange in the Information Products & Indices department in January 1998, as Head of Market Feeds. During that time he also served as responsible project manager in order to set-up and establish STOXX Ltd. as the leading European index provider. In 2001 he was a founding member of SIX Exfeed Ltd., the European provider of raw financial data. Here he holds the position of deputy CEO and Market Data Services Manager on the Management Board of the company. Since the company's foundation he has been responsible for spearheading SIX Exfeed's market data business side, which has been showing sustainable and profitable growth in recent years. Ottavio Gisler started his career in 1987, as a registered floor trader at the Basel Stock Exchange with Swiss Volksbank, Basel. Prior to joining SIX Group, he spent more than a decade in the financial industry in New York, London, Basel and Zurich in a range of business roles such as portfolio manager, pension fund investment advisor and as a registered trader. He graduated from business school in Basel and acquired in-depth specialist knowledge at the New York Stock Exchange and the New York Institute of Finance in the field of advisory services for pension funds, financial analytics and trading.

When he joined Deutsche Boerse AG in 1994, he was initially responsible for the Benchmark Products Sales activities before he was appointed Head of Front Office Data & Analytics in 1997. As an Executive Committee Member of FISD, the Financial Information Services Division of the US Software & Information Industry Association SIIA, he actively participates to addressing and resolving issues related to the dissemination, management, administration and use of financial information. Georg Gross holds a degree in Business Administration acquired at University of Mannheim in 1990. He is married, has two sons and a daughter and enjoys a glass of wine, preferably grown at his own vine yard.


Keith HaleKeith Hale

Keith Hale has 18 years experience in financial services software specializing in data management and reporting projects solution for investment managers, custodians, prime brokers and fund administrators. Keith is currently Executive Vice President, EMEA responsible for the sales, client services and implementation of Netik's products and services in the region.
