Stephen Alkins
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, TERC

Stephen D. Alkins, Jr., PhD is the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer (DEIO) and Co-chair of the Diversity Council at TERC. With his leadership Stephen helps craft and implement the strategic vision for diversity, equity, and inclusion at TERC and within its STEM education research projects. Stephen also collaborates with the office of the President at TERC, Senior Strategic Project Lead, and Director of Communications to incorporate goals and metrics for DEI into long-term strategies for fundraising, development, and marketing. As a spoken word and SLAM poet he has performed nationally and led lectures and workshops with students from elementary schools through college on how to utilize poetry, Hip Hop and other art forms to understand Science and Mathematics, and issues of Medicine. Most recently he conducted a workshop at the 2018 Young Men's Leadership Conference in which he used Hip-Hop to deconstruct the stigma of mental health in young men of color. Finally, he speaks at a number of K-12 schools about his research, encouraging students to pursue careers in STEAM fields.

Ashley Andersen Zantop

Ashley Andersen Zantop is Chief Operating Officer and Co-President at GreaterGood, a cause commerce, media and social publisher connecting audiences with the causes they care about most. Previously, Ashley served as General Manager at Pinpoint Learning and Chief Content Officer for Capstone, a leading publisher of children's books, media, audio, digital solutions and services, literacy programs, and K-12 professional development resources for classrooms, school libraries and home. Before that, Ashley served as CEO, President and Publisher at Trudy Corporation, later Palm Publishing, responsible for the group's family of global children's imprints and media businesses. She has spent over 20 years in media, technology, publishing and retail for global consumers, education and nonprofits working in North America, Africa, Asia, Europe, the UK and South America. Ashley began her career as an elementary school classroom teacher and collegiate coach. Ashley's passion for social impact and continuous learning fuels her work leading award-winning organizations in K-12, trade/B2B and consumer markets around the world. She serves as chair of the board of directors and executive committee member for the SIIA's Education Division and co-chair of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. She is the co-founder and former co-president of the Fairfield University MFA Alumni Association. Ashley earned her MFA in creative writing from Fairfield University with concentrations in fiction and screenwriting. She holds a bachelor's degree in education and a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Michigan and teaching certifications K- 5 and 6 - 8. She also holds certificates in media strategy from Harvard Business School; in executive function in the classroom from the Harvard Graduate School of Education; and in design thinking from Ideo U.

Andrew Coulson
Chief Data Science Officer, MIND Research Institute

Andrew Coulson, Chief Data Science Officer at MIND Research Institute, leads a team of data analysts to conduct evaluations of student and teacher usage and outcomes on MIND’s ST Math instructional program. Prior to this position, he led MIND’s Education Division for 12 years, helping to devise and execute strategies and programs to scale the organization’s reach from 4,000 to over 1M students, now transforming student learning in 47 states. Before joining MIND, Coulson was the first education program officer for a major California private foundation. He also worked in high-tech manufacturing engineering for 6 years at Teledyne-Monitor Labs and 11 years at Northrup-Grumman/TRW Microelectronics, acquiring experience in operations, process engineering, product reliability and technology transfer. Coulson earned a B.S. and M.S. in physics from UCLA.

Brendan Desetti

Brendan is the Director of Government & Stakeholder Relations at D2L. D2L's learning management platform, Brightspace, is used by school and companies to personalize the learning experience for every student and deliver real results. Brendan’s role includes working with policymakers and education stakeholder groups to foster positive learning policy and promote innovative learning strategies and the use of technology for students and schools. This includes competency-based education, accessibility for students with disabilities, and student data privacy. Prior to joining D2L, Brendan was the Director of Education Policy for the Software & Information Industry.

Neal Goff

Neal Goff is President of consulting firm Egremont Associates and a Senior Advisor at Oaklins, DeSilva+Phillips, a mid-market investment bank that specializes in media, technology and education. He founded Egremont Associates in 2010 after a successful 25-year career in publishing, which culminated in his serving for five years as President of the Weekly Reader Publishing Group. Egremont Associates assists clients in publishing and educational technology with strategic planning, marketing (with a particular focus on direct marketing), and partnership development. A past president of the Board of the Association of Educational Publishers, Neal also served previously as President of Scholastic Library Publishing and Prentice Hall Direct. He was a co-author of MDR's State of the K-12 Market report from 2012 to 2016 and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Literacy Partners, a non-profit organization that strengthens families by offering free classes in literacy and language skills to low-income and immigrant parents.

John Jorgenson

John currently serves as Cambium Learning’s Chief Marketing Officer. As CMO, he’s focused on expanding and sharing Cambium’s brand with the world, while also working closely with its executive team and division-level leaders to provide ongoing creative and strategic support. A graduate of Purdue University, John began his 25-year career working up the product development ranks at Cengage Gale, eventually doing creative work and strategic marketing for their K-12 imprints. After a stint as Director of Marketing & Communications at Boston-based Earthwatch Institute, the world's largest nonprofit focused on volunteer-based scientific research, he joined Cambium Learning. During his first seven years at Cambium, John served as SVP, Marketing for two of its divisions and grew Learning A-Z by a factor of four to become its largest division. Most recently, John served as CMO at Carnegie Learning, launching the LONG + LIVE + MATH™ brand and expanding the product and services portfolios beyond mathematics into computer science, world languages and ELA. John and his family live in Pittsburgh, PA.

A former strategy and M&A consultant with Monitor Deloitte, Victor has advised or worked directly for, both startups and Fortune 10 companies across nearly every major industry. He specializes in creatively applying lessons and best practices across industries. Victor is also an experienced educator at the university level. The principal at Paula Maylahn Consulting, Paula is an education industry consultant working for companies and organizations across the K-20 spectrum. She currently serves as CoSN’s project director for interoperability initiatives and has authored CoSN’s annual IT Infrastructure and IT Leadership reports for several years. Paula is a contributing author on two books, “The Experts’ Guide to the K-12 Market” and “The Experts’ Guide to the Postsecondary Market”, and authored the publication, “Interoperability: Definitions, Expectations, and Implications.” Prior to establishing her consultancy, Paula was senior vice president for Pearson, where she oversaw cross-company strategic communications and international marketing for Pearson School Companies. Prior to her role in K-12, Paula oversaw a variety of business functions for Pearson Higher Education including content management and process improvement and helped established digital publishing standards for their STEM division. Paula chairs the education council of the United Design Guild where she also serves as a member of the board. She is a council member of the Women’s Education Project, former board member of the Education Division of the Software & Information Industry Association, and a former executive council member of the PreK-12 Learning Group of the Association of American Publishers.

In his work with Sandhill he has reoriented and restructured clients and launched initiatives in Common Core, STEM, digital, OER and global contexts, including service to all of the EngageNY nonprofits. His dedication to improving learner outcomes in diverse, low-income environments led him to chair the upgrade of AAP PreK-12’s Innovation Through Inclusion initiative, and become founding co-chair of SIIA ETIN’s Diversity committee.

Divya has 10 years of combined experience in healthcare and education policy and has worked on issues such as interoperability, district digital transformation, educational equity, student data privacy, and funding for instructional materials.
