62nd Annual Neal Awards to Celebrate B2B Journalism’s Best & Brightest – April 1 in NYC

New York (Feb. 18, 2016) – Connectiv, the Business Information Association, a division of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal trade association for the software and digital content industries,  today announced finalists for the 62nd Jesse H. Neal Awards – the premier awards program honoring B2B journalism. Winners will be announced during a special awards ceremony held April 1 at Pier 60 in New York City.

Finalists for the Neal Awards include 184 nominations. Companies with the most finalists are Crain Communications, ALM and Penton.

This year's awards recognize a range of traditional categories, including best news coverage, commentary, and technical content, as well as digital platforms, including best blog, social media and webcast, as well as new categories for best use of data, infographics, art direction and best data journalist.  Neal Awards finalists represent the changing face of B2B media, recognizing new all-digital products and services, and companies ranging from revenues of more than $7 million to those under $3 million.  A total of 46 winners will be announced, culminating in the Grand Neal Award, which honors the most outstanding entry from among the winners in all categories.

The Neal Awards will also honor the recipients of four special recognition awards, including the prestigious Timothy White Award for editorial integrity; the Marianne Dekker Mattera Award for dedicated mentoring; the G.D. Crain Award for distinguished editorial career; the Gertrude Crain Award for women’s leadership within the B2B community; and the McAllister Editorial Fellowship, which is given to an editor who will teach journalism at Northwestern University’s prestigious Medill School of Journalism.

Mike Marchesano, managing director of Connectiv, says of this year’s entries, “This year’s entries reflect the complexity of the global marketplace our members serve.  From the changes in the housing market led by millennials and cybersecurity threats to STEM issues in our school systems, challenges in the financial markets and transportation issues, the 184 finalists are commended for their in-depth understanding of key drivers of our global economy.

Marchesano further notes, "B2B editors are critical experts in helping business leaders make effective decisions by providing analysis, insight and opinion. The size of the industry our finalists cover may vary from small-town business owners to leaders of multinationals, but the care and concern devoted to investigating and reporting on these businesses remains clear and constant.  We congratulate all the finalists for their impressive work and as role models for the next generation of business editors and reporters.”

A panel of 12 judges reviewed the 184 finalists to select the winners in 21 editorial categories. Leanna Orr, chair of the Neal Awards and managing editor of Asset International says, “Connectiv set the 2016 selection committee an ambitious task: The first truly platform-agnostic Neal Awards. This year’s stunning crop of entries proved B2B media's creative range and technical prowess. But most of all, this group’s body of work made vivid what the Neal Awards have always been about: editorial excellence, for and by masters of their crafts. On behalf of the committee, I’m honored to congratulate the finalists and thank the judges, screeners and entrants.”
