CEO Panel Announced: Three Executives to Discuss the Business Models and Strategies Driving Today’s Successful Publishers

WASHINGTON (May 16, 2016) – The Specialized Information Publishers Association (SIPA) announced a panel of CEOs will provide a unique perspective on how to strategically grow revenue and profits in the publishing industry during the opening keynote address at SIPA’s 40th Annual Conference: Pivoting for Profit, June 6-8 in Washington, DC. The special presentation will offer an inside look at how three company leaders have taken unique approaches to information delivery in the niche publishing field.

The three panelists and moderator are:

  • Brian Crotty, president and CEO of Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), a division of HIS that was recently sold by United Communications Group for hundreds of millions of dollars.
  • Robin Crumby, who founded Melcrum from his kitchen table and built it into an international organization.
  • Lynn Freer, who is known as “Ms. California Tax” because of Spidell Publishing’s clear leadership in its field.
  • Don Pazour, CEO of Access Intelligence, will moderate the keynote panel.

“The keynote will set the tone for this historic 40th anniversary conference,” said Nancy Brand, SIPA’s managing director. “Attendees will walk in the door that morning to hear three amazing success stories from self-made, SIPA-member leaders. By sharing our members’ stories, SIPA will provide an inside-look at the specialized publishing industry and offer deep insight for other business leaders.”

Based in London, Crumby ran Melcrum, a research and training business, for close to 20 years, advising executives at Fortune 500 organizations worldwide. In November 2015, Melcrum was acquired by the Corporate Executive Board. He quickly launched another venture, Novatum Group, which helps growing businesses thrive in the digital age.

Spidell is the premier provider of tax updates in California, with more than 16,000 tax professionals attending their federal and California tax update each year. Freer, its president since 1994, works closely with all state tax agencies and is often consulted for input on policy decisions. She always has the inside information on what's happening because she devotes herself full-time to her job.

Pazour has led the strategy and growth of Access Intelligence for close to 20 years, taking magazine-centric businesses and transforming them into an integrated media, event-driven, web-centric group of market-focused product clusters. He and his team have built the business through countless launches and 20 acquisitions in fields from energy/engineering to aerospace and healthcare.
