Grand Neal and Special Award Winners Announced at Connectiv’s 66th Annual Jesse H. Neal Awards Celebration

Connectiv honors journalistic excellence in 21 categories in the B2B information industry

 

NEW YORK (April 17, 2019) – In a historic and virtual Neal’s celebration, Connectiv, the Business Information Association, a division of SIIA, announced the winners of the 66th Annual Jesse H. Neal Awards today. The largest global audience ever assembled for the award celebration celebrated business-to-business journalism’s most prestigious honors. Named for Jesse H. Neal, the first managing director of Connectiv (formerly ABM), the awards were established in 1955 recognizing and rewarding editorial excellence in business media. Fifty-three awards were presented across 21 categories, including the Grand Neal Award, which recognizes overall editorial excellence.

 

IEEE Spectrum earned highest honors and the Grand Neal Award for Project Moon Base, a special report exploring how technology, billionaires and geopolitics will help us get back to the moon. The four-part special report infused with bold images and infographics wove a narrative illustrating our history with the moon and how science fictions and robots can help get us there. 

 

Editorial and Business Leaders at Financial Planning, Overdrive, IEEE Spectrum and McGraw Hill Recognized for leadership, integrity and building the future with four key specialty awards.

  • Ann Marsh, Senior editor, West Coast bureau chief, Financial Planning, Arizent received the Timothy White award honoring exemplary leadership in face of challenges and pressures. 
  • Max Heine, Editorial Director of Randall-Reilly’s Overdrive was selected as the winner of the Marianne Dekker Mattera Mentor Award. This award honors leaders who excel in mentoring and is presented in memory of Dekker, the long-time Editor-in-Chief of RNMagazine and Medical Economics to reflect her devotion to educating and developing her colleagues.
  • Joe Innis, former Editorial Director, Metals News/Americas at S&P Global Platts, was selected as the winner of the G.D. Crain Jr. Award, recognizing his career of outstanding contributions to the development of editorial excellence in business media.
  • Eliza Strickland, Senior Editor of IEEE Spectrum received the McAllister Editorial Fellowship Award promoting the study of business media. As winner, Strickland will join the Medill Magazine project at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and spend a week instructing future journalists.
