SIIA Commends Mexico for USMCA Ratification; Urges U.S. Congress to Do Same

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 20, 2019) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association for the software, information, and digital content industries, commends Mexico for its approval of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

SIIA Senior Vice President for Global Public Policy, Carl Schonander, issued the following statement:

“SIIA commends Mexico’s Senate for its approval of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), and congratulates President López Obrador and the country of Mexico for being the first to ratify this historic agreement.  With its robust digital chapter that includes strong provisions on cross-border data flows, USMCA reinforces the importance of working with friends and allies to shape global trade rules that reflect the realities of 21st century trade.

"Again, SIIA commends Mexico on this achievement, and looks forward to continuing to work with the U.S. Congress as it considers USMCA."
