SIIA Applauds Bipartisan House Approval of Defend Trade Secrets Act

Washington D.C. (April 27, 2016) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association representing the software and digital content industries, applauded the House of Representative’s bipartisan passage of the Defend Trade Secrets Act.

SIIA’s Senior Vice President for Public Policy, Mark MacCarthy, issued the following statement:

“Today’s vote reflects a bipartisan recognition of the importance of trade secrets to innovation and the American economy. U.S. software and technology companies invest billions in innovation and depend very heavily on trade secrets to protect those investments.

“The Defend Trade Secrets Act will protect and promote that innovation by creating a uniform national rule for trade secret misappropriation.  The result will be more efficient, less costly litigation when a company's property has been stolen. SIIA applauds House leadership for promptly moving this essential bill and sending it to the President’s desk.”
