SIIA Applauds Release of Tech Agenda by House Judiciary Committee

Washington, D.C. (May 2, 2017) – Today, the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association representing the software and digital content industries, applauds Chairman Goodlatte (R-VA) and members of the House Judiciary Committee for putting forward a tech agenda that addresses some of the most critical barriers to U.S. innovation and job production. Mark MacCarthy, SIIA Senior Vice President for Public Policy, commented:

“We strongly support the Committee’s continuing push to review copyright policy and its efforts to modernize the copyright office. Strong IP protection has been a cornerstone of American creativity and innovation for decades, and it is essential that Congress keep the patent system viable as trolls seek to extort tech innovators.

“ECPA reform and changes to the outdated legal framework for law enforcement access to cloud data are vital for maintaining the global leadership of U.S. technology companies. We view these as must-pass reforms that will help invigorate domestic job and economic growth.

“Chairman Goodlatte and members of the Judiciary Committee have shown thoughtful leadership on this comprehensive innovation agenda, and SIIA looks forward to working with them on this and other vital tech issues.”
