SIIA Applauds Sen. Hatch for Promoting Tech Agenda to Grow the U.S. Economy and Create Data-Driven Jobs

Washington, DC (February 16, 2017) – Today, The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal trade association for the software and digital content industries, said that Senator Orin Hatch’s (R-UT) Innovation Agenda for the 115th Congress offers important progress in the effort to match public policy with the rapid advancement of technology. The Agenda was unveiled today by Hatch, who is Chairman of the Senate Republican High Tech Task Force.

Mark MacCarthy, SIIA’s Senior Vice President for Public Policy, commented:

“Senator Hatch continues to be a tireless champion of technology and innovation. The Agenda announced today shows that he is committed to working across the aisle and with the Trump administration to promote a comprehensive slate of policies that will advance U.S. global leadership and job creation.

“At a time when American companies face more global competition than ever, this Innovation Agenda is a must-do list for Congress. While technology has advanced at light speed over the last decade, our technology policies have lagged far behind. Senator Hatch understands the serious nature of this problem, and his agenda will make important progress in addressing it.

“There is so much economic opportunity hanging in the balance on issues ranging from intellectual property, to STEM education, to international privacy. We urge Congress to act soon to ensure the continued growth of the U.S. tech industry and the data-driven jobs it enables.

“SIIA thanks Senator Hatch for his steadfast tech policy leadership and his commitment to a robust agenda for the 115th Congress.”
