SIIA Joins Americans for Free Trade in Calling for Additional Duty Deferral

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 29, 2020) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association for the software, information, and digital content industries, joined Americans for Free Trade (AFT) in a letter calling on the Administration to defer additional duties. The letter calls on the Administration to extend duty deferrals to cover imports made during May and June and expand the due dates for all duties and fees.

SIIA Senior Vice President for Global Public Policy, Carl Schonander, issued the following statement:

“SIIA is encouraged by many of the steps the Administration and the Congress have taken to address the economic consequences of the coronavirus. For example, many of our members are taking advantage of the Paycheck Protection Program, which SIIA provided information on in this
webinar. SIIA has also emphasized the importance of relief for the education and events sectors. Deferring duties helps American workers and companies to survive in the short-term, while still providing revenue to the government in the future.”
