SIIA Welcomes The Announcement Of A Deal To Pass USMCA

WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 10, 2019) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association for the software, information, media, and digital content industries, welcomes today’s announcement of a deal between the Trump Administration and House Democrats to move forward on the United-States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

SIIA President, Jeff Joseph, issued the following statement:

“SIIA welcomes today’s announcement of a deal between the Trump Administration and House Democrats to move forward on the United-States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). As SIIA has long advocated, USMCA’s digital, financial and intellectual property chapters set an important and necessary new standard for modern trade rules, particularly with respect to cross-border data flows underpinning modern trade. These chapters will benefit digital trade and e-commerce, ensuring the United States remains the global leader in internet technology and digital content helping grow our economy and maintain U.S. leadership in innovation.

“SIIA commends Ambassador Lighthizer, Speaker Pelosi, Chairman Neal, and Democratic and Republican lawmakers who worked hard to reach this historic agreement. We look forward to reviewing the implementing legislation and remain available to assist in any way we can to secure USMCA’s ultimate passage.”
