SIIA Welcomes U.S.-China Deal – Looks Forward to Reviewing Details of Structural Changes

WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 13, 2019) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association for the software, information, and digital content industries, welcomes today’s announcement of the Phase 1 trade deal between the United States and China.

SIIA SVP for Global Public Policy, Carl Schonander, issued the following statement:

“SIIA welcomes the Phase 1 agreement. We especially look forward to analyzing the details of the agreed upon structural changes to the trade relationship. Ultimately, structural change in Chinese trade and investment practices, particularly with respect to cross-border data flows, respect for intellectual property, and other technology policy issues will determine whether the agreement is a success. SIIA commends Ambassador Lighthizer and his team for their work in seeking fundamental change in Chinese trade and investment practices.”
