The Software and Information Industry Association joined a coalition of organizations in a letter urging House leadership to bring S. 146—the Tools to Address Known Exploitation by Immobilizing Technological Deepfakes on Websites and Networks (TAKE IT DOWN) Act—to the floor for a vote. The bipartisan bill, which received overwhelming support in the House Energy & Commerce Committee, addresses the growing threat of non-consensual deepfake imagery and aims to protect individuals—particularly children and victims of intimate image abuse—from the harmful misuse of generative AI.
The letter emphasizes that while AI holds great promise, it also creates new risks that current laws do not fully address, especially in the context of deepfake pornography and AI-generated child sexual abuse material. With the TAKE IT DOWN Act now on the suspension calendar, the signatories urged swift passage to close legal gaps and provide critical tools to combat the spread of exploitative AI-generated content online.
