Grand Neal and Special Award Winners Announced at Connectiv’s 64th Annual Jesse H. Neal Awards Celebration
Connectiv also honored journalistic excellence in the B2B information industry in 19 categories
NEW YORK (April 5, 2018) – Connectiv, the Business Information Association, a division of SIIA, today announced the winners of the 64th Annual Jesse H. Neal Awards. The ceremony was held at 10 on the Park in New York City.
The Jesse H. Neal Awards are the most prestigious editorial honors in the field of business to business journalism. Named after Jesse H. Neal, the first managing director of Connectiv (formerly ABM), the Neal Awards were established in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in business media. Past Neal winners and finalists have tackled some of the major issues of their time. In doing so, they have exposed corruption, conflicts of interest and other malfeasance, and brought attention to major new trends, brilliant leadership, innovative tactics and other developments in businesses and industries.

The 2018 Grand Neal was awarded to The Climate is Changing. So Must Architecture. from Architect, Hanley Wood for Best Subject-Related Package. The award was presented by Bill McDowell, Vice President and Editorial Director, MTG Media Group and Vice Chair of the Neal Award’s judge’s selection committee. McDowell noted, “With strong prose and telling photography, Architect offers wise counsel from practioners and insurers. It shows how to do well while doing good, even as it calls out its profession for far too few firms realizing carbon-neutral performance.” McDowell added, “Architect is truly deserving of the 2018 Grand Neal award. The brand’s comprehensive reporting, strong graphics and highly relevant content make it a powerful and significant contributor to its field.”
Special awards given to editorial and business leaders at Informa, NewBay Media, BNP Media.
Connectiv also honored the very best of the B2B industry through a series of special awards recognizing industry leadership, vision and commitment.
Lara Seligman, Pentagon Editor of Aviation Week, Informa, was selected as the winner of the McAllister Editorial Fellowship. The Fellowship promotes the study of business media by placing fellows as teachers and advisers at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.
Margot Douaihy, Content Director, AV Technology, NewBay Media, was selected as the winner of the Marianne Dekker Mattera Mentor Award. This award honors leaders who excel in mentoring and helping to shape the careers of less experienced colleagues.
Janice L. Tuchman, Editor-in-Chief, Engineering News-Record, BNP Media, was selected as the winner of the 50h Annual G.D. Crain Jr. Award. The Award is given annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the development of editorial excellence in business media over the course of a career.
