The Software and Information Industry Association has joined a coalition of leading technology companies and trade organizations in supporting the TAKE IT DOWN Act, a critical piece of legislation designed to combat the spread of non-consensual intimate images, including AI-generated deepfakes. The bill, championed by Senators Cruz and Klobuchar and Representatives Salazar and Dean, mandates swift removal of such content from online platforms and imposes criminal penalties on those who create or distribute it.
As AI continues to advance, so do the risks posed by bad actors who exploit this technology to harm individuals. The TAKE IT DOWN Act provides a necessary framework to protect victims, hold perpetrators accountable, and strengthen the ability of tech companies to act. With bipartisan backing and momentum in Congress, we urge the House to pass this legislation and send it to the President’s desk without delay.
