“Apple’s announcement to stop offering end-to-end encryption for cloud storage in the UK is unfortunate for UK consumers, but a smart decision in response to reported efforts by the UK government to seek access to encrypted communications worldwide. Apple recognizes that there is no such thing as an encryption backdoor that can only be used by good actors, and that the consequence of weakening encryption for one will make information less secure for all. There are no signs the UK government’s efforts have abated. We again call on the US government to take a firm stand against this development.”
