The Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) has submitted feedback on the Draft Report of the Joint California Policy Working Group on AI, commending its thoughtful approach to AI governance while offering recommendations to strengthen policy alignment and innovation incentives. We support the report’s recognition of the challenges in adverse event reporting, the need for institutional capacity building, and the importance of balancing innovation with risk. At the same time, we encourage greater alignment with federal and international AI frameworks, acknowledgment of industry-led safety initiatives, and clearer guidance on regulatory thresholds to avoid fragmentation and compliance burdens. SIIA looks forward to continued engagement as California refines its AI policy approach.
